Program Details: 50/50 Cost share - Reimbursement up to $3,000.00. May be used for already existing HUAs. Filter fabric must already be present and contract maintenance must be expired. Retroactive up to 60 days before approval. Project must be completed within 60 days after approval. Pictures and receipts must be submitted upon completion. Must be maintained for five years.
Project Guidelines: Shape and grade the planned installation area to a depth in which all topsoil and organic material is removed. These materials may be stockpiled and utilized in adjacent areas where needed to enhance vegetative establishment. The final subgrade shall be to the lines and grades that ponding of water will not occur.
Heavy use areas shall have a minimum 6 inch base course of either KY DOH Dense Grade Aggregate (DGA) #8, #57, or #4 stone as specified in the details hereon.
The final surface material for the HUA shall be a 2 inch thick course of KY DOH DGA #57, #8 ag lime or Class I Sand, as specified in the details hereon.
Upon placement of the final course of surface material to the specified thickness, the entire surface shall be tracked with a smooth tread vehicle or farm implement to "seal" the surface. The surfacing aggregate must be moist for this effort to be effective. Addition of the moisture by spraying the surface with water may be required. Geotextile Filter Fabric is to be placed at all aggregate soil interfaces. In the event that bedrock is encountered in subgrade preparation, geotextile is not required on exposed bedrock surface. Geotextile is to be Class I non-woven with the minimum requirements as specified in table 2. Final grading around the HUA shall be as such that any overland flow will be diverted away from the completed HUA surface.
Basic Requirements: Must excavate at least 8 inches in the ground for the heavy use area (10-12 inches recommended for livestock Must use non-woven geotextile filter fabric. Filter fabric must be completely covered with rock. Final surface should be level with ground.
