Join us for The Commonplace Society, a creative journaling club for ages 13 and older.*

Together we’ll explore the art of building a “book of everything,” blending writing, collage, lists, quotes, drawings, and more. Along the way, we’ll also learn about the history of commonplacing—including the Italian zibaldone, or “heap of things, miscellany, or hodgepodge”—and the famous figures, such as Leonardo da Vinci, who used these collections to gather their ideas and inspirations. We’ll also explore the many benefits of journaling, including reducing anxiety, increasing mindfulness, preserving memories, supporting continuous learning, and more.

Each month we meet twice, focusing on the same technique or lesson both times. By coming to both sessions, you’ll not only have extra time to practice but also keep up the habit of journaling regularly. We’ll have a wide range of creative supplies to spark your imagination—stickers, paper, washi tape, stamps, pens, and more—so every page can be uniquely yours. Please feel free to bring your own ephemera. A journal will be provided for those who need one.

Registration is required only once for the entire series. Space is limited, and this program is designed specifically for those ages 13 and older. For this reason, no one under 13 may attend—including younger children—so that everyone can focus on their creative work without distraction, and so the presenter can give their full attention to guiding the group.
