What is the Point in Time Count?
The Point-in-Time (PIT) count is our community's opportunity to get an accurate count of people experiencing homelessness in the county. Across the county, staff at homeless shelters are counting the people they are serving. That same night, Street Count volunteers from the community will walk the streets and survey people living outside. We use this night to collect valuable data that will eventually make it's way to Congress and hopefully it leads to more adequate funding that helps our neighbors get housed.
I am ready to help!
A: You can join the Street Count effort by filling out this form. You can either sign up with a group of friends, family members or colleagues and make your own street team, OR sign up as a solo volunteer, in which case we will place you on a Street Team.
Each Street Team will be assigned to a section of the county and will work together to find our unsheltered neighbors and asked them a few questions. Expect to be a driver or a passenger in someone's car, walk moderate distances, and be out in the elements on a January night.
B: All Positions Filled: We also will need a small group of Homebase volunteers to help us set-up our headquarters and ensure the event runs smoothly.
1 hour of mandatory training will be provided before the night of the event.
