Mission
Howard University Alternative Spring Break (HUASB) is a service-learning program designed to connect students with underserved communities and to explore the spiritual and ethical dimensions of leadership as it challenges students to discern how their unique gifts and skills can be used to address the needs of underserved communities and the world at large.
Vision
The vision of HUASB is to expose students to concepts of social justice, urban education, and community development; cultivate ethically responsible, socially aware leaders; integrate vocational discernment and interfaith spiritual exploration into the developmental process; and improve communities through direct outreach and long-term impact.
Goals
The goals of Alternative Spring Break are for Howard University students to:
1. Respond to the needs of our community through service and activism.
2. Reflect on the impact of our work through critical assessment and contemplation.
3. Develop leadership skills and an understanding of leadership that equips students for future endeavors in diverse environments.
