• Confirm your Eligibility for the Instrument Check Ride

Submit check ride prerequisite information and logbook photos
  • Why complete this now? One of the first steps of a check ride is "qualifing the applicant"

    • This form will gather important information that is required to be submited to the FAA in advance about your check ride
    • You can submit most required documentation now to allow time for review and corretions instead of being sent back home due to paperwork errors
    • This step is not required, however, I will not delay my next appointment, conduct any portion of the check ride at night, and will charge a fee for check rides that cannot start due to paperwork errors.
    • All of the items requested will be requested on the day of, but presenting them early can shorten this review by an hour or more

I look forward to reviewing your file in advance and working with you!

    Cole Norton, DPE

  • Prepare to take photos of your certificates, documents, logbook, and aircraft records. Make sure you have all check ride documents you will bring to the check ride available for this review. Please try to square them off with the camera frame! It's perfectly normal to end up submitting the same logbook pages more than once if multiple requirements are met on the same page. You can aways use a marker tab when you take the picture or just point at the entry you are wanting me to look at.

  • Applicant Statement

  • I agree to be Tested in Accordance with the Airman Certification Standards. I understand that I’m not required to test with Cole Norton as my examiner. I am aware of the three possible outcomes: a temporary airman certificate, a notice of disapproval, or a letter or discontinuance. I agree to accept the outcome of this checkride as determined by Cole Norton, DPE. I agree to act as pilot-in-command for the flight portion and accept all responsibility for the flight and the aircraft. I am providing a suitable, airworthy aircraft for the test.

Instrument Checkride Specific Note: You will be pilot in command and therefore the checkride will be conducted in VMC.

  • Fee Policy

  • My base fee is $1000 for any checkride. If the checkride is being conducted outside of Iowa, there is an additional $400 travel fee per appointment. Each checkride, re-test, or continuation of a discontinued checkride is a separate appointment. My policy is to discount half of the base fee for a re-test or discontinuance of a checkride within 60 days of the inital test, unless the letter of discontinuance or notice of disapproval is coming from another examiner, then the full fee applies. I will only accept the full fee after determining that you and the aircraft are qualified to take the test. Once I accept any fee it is not refundable. I do not accept checks from third parties such as flight schools or electronic payments. Cash, Cashiers Check, and Personal checks are accepted. If you check does not clear you agree to allow me to invoice your flight school for the fee.
