Open Call. ARTISTIC RESIDENCES + CITY SHOWCASES

Through this form, artists and music projects can submit their applications to participate in the 2025 edition of Westway LAB (for artistic residency or city showcase), which will take place from April 9 to 12, heralding the arrival of Spring.

Artistic residencies bring together two to three artists (with at least one of Portuguese nationality) in a creative space for eight days, from April 1 to April 8, allowing them to collaboratively develop original compositions (to be presented during Westway LAB).

City showcases are free concerts that will take place on the afternoon of Saturday, April 12, at various locations in the centre of Guimarães, a UNESCO World Heritage site.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What are the Artistic Residencies?
The artistic residencies occur at the Centro de Criação de Candoso over eight consecutive days. Four working groups of two or three artists will be formed (with at least one artist in each group being of Portuguese nationality). Each group will work on original compositions. The artistic residencies promoted in the context of Westway LAB have no theme or script, allowing artists complete creative freedom. At the end of the week, each group presents the result of their work live, in a set of approximately 30 minutes. These live premieres of each project may be recorded in video and audio for the artists' later use.

Conditions for participation in the artistic residencies
➞ net fee of €150 awarded to each selected application (maximum of 2 artists per application) + travel, meals, and accommodation throughout the week; plus PRO registration.

Who can apply for the artistic residencies?
Individual artists and collective music projects, consisting of a maximum of two members, from within the European space, whether from EU member states or not, can apply.

What are the City Showcases?
The city showcases are free concerts that will take place on the afternoon of Saturday, April 12, at various locations in the centre of Guimarães, as part of the official festival programme.

Conditions for participation in the city showcases
➞ net fee of €300 + dinner and accommodation on the night of their showcase (if necessary) for each selected project.

Who can apply for the city showcases?
All music projects can apply.

Note: The applying artists and their legal representatives agree that Westway LAB can film and record all presentations and disseminate the footage through its channels and third-party channels for promotional purposes.

Selected artists for the Residencies will receive additional information regarding publication rights and rights over the work (master) arising from their participation.
