UVA's Clay Place is a community clay studio located in Roseburg on the Umpqua Valley Arts campus. There are four Open Studio Terms a year that run for 8-weeks at a time. Each term offers ample studio time and various studio amenities.
In this open studio model, there are two enrollment options available:
- Full-Pack: This pack is for those who are new to ceramics and/or for professional artists who need more time in the studio. A Full-Pack provides open access to the studio hours throughout the term with no cap, access to classes up to two times per week (Wednesdays and Saturdays), and full use of the available studio amenities listed below.
- Mini-Pack: This enrollment type is for experienced ceramic artists who have been in our Open Studio Term before and do not need as much studio time or access to the term classes. A Mini-Pack lets artisans/students sign up for 40 2-hour blocks of open studio (a total of 80 hours during the 8-week term). This enrollment type also provides students with full use of the available studio amenities listed below.
Artisans/Students have access to the following amenities in the studio regardless of the pack they register for:
- Up to 30 professional grade glazes and engobes made in-house.
- Access to professional grade studio tools, slab rollers, pottery wheels and other equipment.
- An assigned, reserved locker to store your personal items.
- Use of various shelves to dry your greenware.
- Ability to place special orders for glazes and clay.
- Raku firing day once per term (except during Summer Term)
IMPORTANT, PLEASE READ:
- ALL registered students with no prior clay experience and have not been a Clay Place Term student within the last 12 months, are required to register for a Full Pack.
This includes students that have previously attended OTHER UVA clay workshops and classes.
- Students who are new to the studio (regardless of their experience with clay) must attend either the first Wednesday (5pm-7pm) or first Saturday (10am-12pm) of the term for orientation to learn the rules and guidelines for the studio. Wednesday and Saturday class times will be reserved for all new students.
- While our studio can handle a lot of work each term, The Clay Place is not a high-volume production studio. Our studio hosts up to 40 students during a term and can only handle so much work being made at any one time. All students' output will be monitored by our instructors who will make sure that each student is able to have their work finished in a timely manner throughout the term. Please be advised that students who produce a high volume of works may be asked to reduce their output if it starts to affect the output of other students.
After submitting your registration, you will receive a confirmation email for your registration. Prior to the start of the new term, you will receive information about the term, a Welcome Packet, a link to a Sign-Up Sheet from ashley@uvarts.com to reserve your studio time up to two weeks after the Non-Member registration date.
