  • Playwright* Pals is a program to build the skills, confidence, networks, and capacity of regional storytellers to develop, create, and present new original performance work.

The first year will support five writers each in Mount Gambier, Port Lincoln and the Riverland (15writers total) meeting monthly on Zoom and in person to develop their skills, networks and their own ideas for new performance work/s. All participating writers will have access to bespoke individual mentoring across the year, three Masterclasses across this first year, and six of the fifteen writers will have the opportunity to attend a networking and professional development weekend at Adelaide Fringe 2025. We'll also present readings (scratch night style) in October 2025 of all the works in progress to develop the confidence and profile of the writers in their local communities, and to get ideas up on their feet to test and develop the writer's skills.

We would love to hear from people of all backgrounds, ages, writing styles, and professional experience levels.

*we are using the term playwrights but the program is open to any storytellers writing work for performance, including: songwriters creating cabaret work, spoken word poetry creators, non-traditional and experimental performance writers that may not use the term playwright themselves, and anyone else writing for performance based experiences.

A note on locations - the listed towns are where the monthly in-person gatherings and scratch nights will occur. People who live in the nearby region but are willing to travel are very welcome and encouraged to express interest.

  • We are using a two-stage EOI process for Part of Fringe x Playwright Pals. This form is the first stage to give us a sense of who is out there and interested in being involved. We will also be shoulder-tapping people and invite you to connect us with other suggestions.

From the submitted EOIs, we will then invite participants to formally apply in January to select our final cohort in each location. Invitation to apply in January will be based on the people we think will most benefit from the program and create a supportive and inspiring cohort for each other.

  • About Part of Things:

Part of Things is an initiative founded in 2019 by award winning, Riverland-born and Mount Gambier based, creative practitioner Alysha Herrmann.

PART OF THINGS is a space and connector to bring new ideas to life. It is an experimental gathering place inspired by DIY attitude, entrepreneurial thinking, community service and a ferocious pursuit of "how could this be better?"

Our mission is to nurture a creative and connected generation of doers in and from regional South Australia. We organise projects, events, gatherings, meetings, workshops, mentoring and everything in between to achieve this mission. We present quirky, unique and memorable experiences created and curated by regional artists and thinkers: audio walking tours, immersive theatre, collaborative writing projects, visual arts exhibitions, video game jams, intimate concerts and creative based workshop tasters.

See some of our previous projects here.

We have a physical gathering place, ideas hub and creative nook on the main street of Barmera, in the Riverland region of South Australia. We are exploring ways to share our model and ways of working in other locations across regional SA.
