Term: July 2025 - July 2027
The positions of Alumni Representative at-large, Treasurer, and President-Elect will be elected at the January 26, 2025 (virtual) Special National Conference. Only alumni members and honorary members who have previously served in a national leadership role (e.g., region coordinator (formally section coordinator), committee chair, national committee member, national council or foundation position, or chapter advisor) are eligible to apply.
Applications are due on or before November 8. Interviews will take place in in mid to late November. Following the development of a slate, which contains one candidate for each position, candidate materials will be shared with chapters and be available online. Positions are elected at the Special National Conference (SNC), which will beheld virtually on January 26, 2025.
The National Council meets monthly virtually, attends national conferences, and may serve on other committees. We expect that all national leaders also contribute financially to the success of Mortar Board.
Alumni Representative at-large: As one of two alumni representatives, this position represents their constituency and works closely with the national office and the alumni engagement board to encourage life-long involvement in Mortar Board. This is a two-year term, and officers may serve for two consecutive two-year terms in this position.
Treasurer: The treasurer is responsible for supporting the Executive Director in the review of the annual budget proposal, reviewing all financial statements and transactions, ensuring the completion of required financial reporting forms, and ensuring that all gift and investment policies are followed.. They also sit as an ex-officio member of the Mortar Board National Foundation with voice and vote. This is a two-year term, and officers may serve for two consecutive two-year terms in this position.
President-Elect: The president-elect is the first role this person will take on their journey to national president of Mortar Board. They will work closely under the direction of the current national president to do the business of the society.In addition, the president-elect shall perform the duties of the president in the absence or disability of the president and coordinate the work of the standing and other committees. In their first year, they will typically chair a committee and/or work on a strategic initiative that advances the work of the Society. Then, in year two, they will shadow the national president in preparation for their term as national president. As immediate past president, their last two years on national council in this position, they will serve as the chair of the standing nominations committee to work to slate two years of open national council positions. They will provide support to the new national president and a link to the past, while supporting the future. This is a six-year term.
Note: As mentioned, for 2024, the positions of alumni representative, treasurer, and president-elect are up for election. In 2025, alumni representative and secretary will be elected. Two student representatives-at-large are elected each year to serve a one-year term at the Mortar Board National Conference held in the summer.
