We are excited to offer our Winter Workshop on Zoom on Saturday, January 25, from the comfort of your own home. We have sessions for everyone; pick and choose what interests you. There is no charge to attend.
Note that we have two pension system sessions at the same time--STRS for our certified members, and SERS for our classified. You would want to be sure you chose the correct session for your pension type. The rest of the day are open to all.
8:30 AM-10:00 AM State Employees Retirement System (SERS) for our classified members will be presented by member education specialist Cameron Vaughan. Cameron has presented for us many times and is a passionate advocate for classified members. Join Cameron as he covers all aspects of the pension system for classified.
9:00 AM-10:00 AM State Teachers' Retirement System (STRS) for our certified members will be presented by Tamla Cole, member education specialist for STRS. Educators at any point of their career should make themselves familiar with the STRS pension system, but special information will be shared for those in the late stages of their career who are thinking about retiring. There will be time for questions and answers.
10:15 AM-11:15 AM Saving on the Fun Stuff presented by Guy Kendall-Freas of NEA Member Benefits. All members are automatically entitled to the benefits provided through NEAMB. You can actually recoup your dues dollars by using the services they provide. In addition to the traditional insurance benefits, Guy has more information on how to capitalize your savings in the travel dollars program. So learn how to save big when you are planning your vacation not only on car rentals and airlines, but savings on activities once you get there. Should be a fun session for a January morning!
11:30 AM-12:30 PM WILL POWER: Wills, Living Wills, and Durable Power of Attorney presented by Rachel Reight, LPA, from Baasten, McKinley. Adulting is a big responsibility and Rachel is going to talk to us about what legal documents you should have in place to protect you, your family, and your estate.
1:00 PM-2:30 PM Mental Health Awareness Training (Awareness, Interaction, Direction) presented through a special grant by the Kent State Public Health & Policy Department. Learn the symptoms of a student in distress, how to interact and find resources to help. A session on self-care will be included.
