    • REGISTER TO VOTE 
    • REGISTER ONLINE
         
      • Register online with a MI driver’s license or state ID through Monday, Oct 21.
      • After October 21, register in person during Early Voting or on Election Day with additional proof of residency documents.
      • Note: Registering to vote online will update your driver’s license address to your school address.
      • Complete a voter registration by Monday, Oct 21. Print a paper registration form here.

      • After October 21, register in person during Early Voting or on Election Day with additional proof of residency documents.

      To register during early voting or on Election Day, you will need to bring proof of residency (see below) and photo ID in addition to the last 4 digits of your social security number or Michigan’s driver’s license number.
      • View the CMU sample registration form as you fill yours out.
      • You will need the last four digits of your social security number.
      • If you mail the form it must be postmarked by October 21, 2024

    • PROOF OF RESIDENCY AND VOTER ID 
    • You only need to bring proof of residency if you register after Oct 21, 2024.
      If you registered to vote by Oct. 21, you do not need any proof of residency to vote.
      PROOF OF RESIDENCY DOCUMENTS
      Bring one of the following documents that shows your name and your local address for voter registration:
      • Financial aid or college documents - this includes showing a screenshot of any any document on your student portal that includes your name and school address to prove enrollment
      • Michigan driver’s license, state ID, or U.S. Passport
      • A utility bill
      • Insurance documents (health, car, home, etc.)
      • A bank or credit card statement
      • A lease agreement
      • A paycheck or other government check
      • Other government document
    • You can use your Student ID as Voter ID in Michigan.

      MICHIGAN VOTER ID
      • Student ID from accredited high school or higher education institution
      • US passport or passport card (current)
      • ID such as driver’s license issued by a different state or the US government (current)
      • Michigan driver’s license (expired ok)
      • Michigan state ID card (expired ok)
      • Military identification
      • Tribal identification
      You can vote without an ID if you sign a form confirming your identity (called an affidavit).

      • Bring College ID Card for Voter ID.
      • Bring a proof of residency document if registering during early voting (can be a screenshot on a smart phone from your student portal showing your name and college housing assignment or financial aid information to prove enrollment).
    • In Michigan, your Election Day voting location depends on whether you already registered to vote prior to Election Day.
      • Confirm you are registered to vote before Tuesday Nov 5, 2024.

      • Bring valid Voter ID.
      • Vote Early in the Day: The polls are open from 7 am to 8 pm.

      If you are in line when the polls close, stay in line. Anyone in line must be allowed to vote by law.

      • On Election Day the clerk’s offices are open for registration and voting until 8:00 pm.
      • Bring the Voter ID and Proof of Residency needed.
      1. You have the right to vote from study abroad or out of state location in every election.
      2. Visit Vote from Abroad to vote from abroad or overseas and have your vote count in North Carolina. Don't hesitate to use the chat icon at the bottom of their page for live help.
      3. Active-duty military and military families stationed anywhere in the US or abroad should visit FVAP.GOV to get your military ballot.
      • Confirm active registration at the correct address.
      • Request absentee ballot by Tuesday Oct 15, 2024 to leave enough time to return it.
      • If you don't have a MI driver’s license, upload your signature and make sure you have several extra days for the ballot to be sent.
      • Your ballot will arrive at your mailing address so check your box frequently and fill it out as soon as it arrives.
    • Detailed instructions for voting by mail from the Michigan Department of State are here and please note these tips.
      • Use dark ink to fill your ballot.
      • Place voted ballot in the secrecy sleeve and the secrecy sleeve in the return envelope.
      • Do not forget to sign and date the back of the envelope and seal the envelope.
      • Mail your ballot no later than Tuesday Oct 22 to give it time to arrive by Tuesday Nov 5, 2024.
      • Track your ballot on your Michigan voter page.
      • Other ways to return an absentee ballot include:
        • Hand-delivering the ballot to your clerk’s office or their secure drop box.
        • Bring your absentee ballot to your early voting site or election day polling place to place into a tabulator yourself. If you decide to do so, bring your ballot in the envelope provided by the clerk, and election inspectors will assist you in tabulating your ballot.
