  • Essential Duties and Responsibilities of a Chiropractic Assistant

    • Greets patients and checks them in, confirming their insurance status, the ways in which they will pay, their medical histories, and any other relevant medical information.
    • Takes some general diagnostic information including blood pressure, temperature, weight, height, and records this for the doctor's use in the examination and treatment.
    • Manages the practice's schedule, makes appointments for patients, determines when the chiropractor is available and confirms appointments to make sure patients are on time.
    • Collects and processes payments from patients.
    • Controls the waiting room, attends to patient needs, and ensures the office runs on time.
    • Distributes educational information to patients as instructed by the chiropractor.
    • Maintains organized files on all patients.
    • Abides by HIPAA laws regarding sharing of personal medical information.
    • Answers the phones and addresses all patient questions and concerns, forwarding calls to the appropriate parties when necessary.
    • Keeps the office clean and presentable, doing spot cleaning throughout the day and thorough cleaning at the end of each business day.
    • Explains the office policies to patients as needed.
    • Follows Compliance rules and regulations against fraud and abuse.
    • Maintains front office quality assurance.
    • Informs supervisors of operational problems.
    • Handles a variety of matters including managed care, insurance, collections, operational, and customer service issues.

    Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    • Must be personable with a professional demeanor and able to exercise courtesy and tact with all patients.
    • Must be able to follow HIPAA regulations and medical information sharing practices.
    • Must be willing to undergo further training for performing particular therapy treatments.
    • Must be able to multitask.
    • Must be organized.
    • Must have the ability to work independently and as a team player.
    • Must have strong communication skills and be able to relate to people from all walks of life.
    • Must be proficient with technology including fast typing skills and ability to learn medical and insurance billing software programs.
    • Must be a self-starter and able to work with minimal supervision the majority of the time.
    • Must be willing to adapt to change.
    • Must be able to prioritize workload while remaining flexible.

    Work Environment

    • The majority of time is spent at the front desk of the chiropractic office, with some hands-on interaction throughout the day.
    • Must be willing to interact with people on a constant basis.
    • Sometimes busy, hectic, noisy or stressful with interruptions.
    • Involves frequent telephone contact with patients.
    • This is a full-time position with approximately 35 hours per week.
    • Must be able to work evenings and weekends.

    Basic Requirements

    • High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
    • Must maintain a well-groomed personal appearance.
