Workshop Norms
As we gather for meaningful discussions, moments of discomfort may arise. We encourage you to recognize and embrace these moments as opportunities to engage thoughtfully, with kindness, dignity, and respect. Our goal is to cultivate a safe and inclusive space where all participants feel comfortable sharing incomplete thoughts, brainstorming openly, learning from mistakes, and respectfully challenging each other. This environment is designed to promote feedback, collaboration, and mutual support as we work together.
Please review and agree to the following norms:
- Participate Fully: Engage as much as you are able to contribute meaningfully.
- Listen Actively: Focus on truly understanding others before responding.
- Respect Personal Experiences: Share from your own perspective and avoid making assumptions about others’ experiences.
- Explore Diverse Perspectives: The goal is to explore different viewpoints, not to reach immediate agreement.
- Show Kindness and Respect: Treat everyone with dignity and respect in all interactions.
- Be Transparent: Ask questions with genuine curiosity and openness.
- Practice Open-Mindedness: Acknowledge that each person brings their own unique perspective and expertise.
- Challenge Ideas, Not People: Address the content of discussions, not the individuals contributing them.
- Assume Positive Intent: Avoid defensive reactions; if you feel defensive, take a moment to reflect before responding.
- Recognize Your Value: Trust that your voice and contributions are valuable to the group.
- Embrace Vulnerability: It’s okay not to have all the answers. Be willing to admit when you don’t know something.
- Respect Personal Boundaries: Allow others the space to share at their own pace without pressure.
- Express Gratitude: Acknowledge and thank others for their contributions and experiences.
- Maintain Confidentiality: Keep the lessons, but leave the stories that aren't yours to re-share.
- Be Culturally Sensitive: Recognize that comfort levels may vary based on cultural backgrounds and respect those differences.
- Practice Self-Awareness: Pay attention to your emotions, sit with your discomfort, and take breaks if you need to recharge.
- Stay Curious: Ask questions with the intention of learning and remain open to new insights.
