Each delegate is expected to conduct himself in a respectful, responsible, and gentlemanly manner at all times while participating in Mississippi American Legion Boys State.
No delegate shall appropriate for personal use, deface, or destroy the property of the University of Mississippi, American Legion Boys State, or any other delegate.
Disruptive behavior is prohibited. No delegate shall engage in offensively boisterous, rowdy, or disrespectful conduct during meetings, in dormitories, on campus grounds, or during off-campus activities. Lewd or obscene language is prohibited. Delegates may not possess, display, or distribute pornographic literature, music, images, or other materials.
Delegates may not leave the University of Mississippi campus without proper authorization from the Director.
No delegate shall possess firearms, explosives, fireworks, illegal drugs, non-prescription drugs of any form, or alcoholic beverages at any time.
Delegates are expected to remain at Boys State for the full duration of the program. No delegate shall be permitted to leave Boys State prior to the formal closing of the session without approval from the Director.
Delegates are subject to applicable University of Mississippi policies while residing on campus and are expected to comply with reasonable instructions from Boys State staff and University housing or safety personnel. Delegates shall observe designated quiet hours and respect the residential living environment.
Any violation of these standards may result in dismissal from Mississippi American Legion Boys State. Upon dismissal, written notice stating the reason for dismissal will be provided to parents or guardians, sponsors, and school officials. Any matter pertaining to arrest or bail shall be handled by the Lafayette County Sheriff and/or the Lafayette County Justice Court and not by Mississippi American Legion Boys State. In the event of dismissal, the delegate is responsible for reimbursing his sponsor for all program expenses.
Delegates are honor-bound to report serious violations of these standards that pose a safety risk or threaten the integrity of the program.
The Director has the authority to dismiss a delegate or refer a matter to law enforcement if a delegate is found to be, or reasonably suspected of being, in violation of these standards. Decisions will be made based on the information available at the time and in the best interest of the safety, order, and integrity of the program.
By participating in Mississippi American Legion Boys State, I acknowledge that I have read, understand, and agree to abide by these Standards of Conduct. I understand that the Director’s decision regarding my continued eligibility to remain at Boys State is final and not subject to appeal.
