  • Branch Recital Rules & Guidelines

    1. Open to students of all instruments of active, provisional, or student members of the MTAC Los Angeles County Branch. Contributory members are also welcome.

    2. Music Requirement: ONE music piece is allowed. Two pieces are allowed only if the total performance time is less than 5 minutes. 

    3. Music Requirement: If the music selection is over 5 minutes but under 10 minutes, a higher fee is applied. Only ONE music piece is allowed for this category.

    4. Students must dress in appropriate recital attire. 

    5. Music must be performed by memory. However, music scores may be used for chamber piece (e.g., duets, trios, etc.).

    6. The recital may be divided into 2 or more programs if it runs longer than 1 hour.  Student performers must stay for the entirety of their assigned recital program.

    7. Trophies will be given to every participant at the end of each recital program. Student performers must stay for the entire program to receive their trophies.

    8. Parents & teachers must adhere to the MTAC Recording & Attendance Policy in order to participate in the event.

    9. Late/incomplete applications and/or payments will be denied.

    10. All fees are non-refundable.

    To Al MTAC LA County Branch Teachers and Parents:


    Recording: California Civil Code Section 1708.8 states that it is illegal to capture photos, videos, or audio recordings of people without their permission or consent, especially when
    minors are involved.


    The MTAC - Los Angeles County Branch forbids the use of photography, audio and video recording of students' performances during their public music branch events.

    This includes the use of the following recording devices:
    • Cell phones/smartphones, smartwatches
    • Tablets
    • Mirrorless cameras
    • DSLR cameras
    • Camcorders
    • Mini recorders


    In open branch events, photography and video recording of a student performer by a family member or friend will be allowed from one designated seat at the front of the audience. All other areas are prohibited.

    Participating teachers will monitor the audience to enforce the policy. Failure to comply with this policy will result in the associated student performer: 1. forfeiting any award received, if selected as winner, and 2. being prohibited from participating in the same Music Branch event the following year.


    Attendance: No more than 3 family members per student are permitted to attend. Persons under the age of 4 are prohibited from entering the venue during performances.


    It is our highest priority to ensure the safety and privacy of all student performers. Therefore these rules will be strictly enforced at all public Music Branch events. We ask that you share this reminder with any family member or friends who plan to attend. Your cooperation, and thar of the student's family, is essential and greatly appreciated.


    Upon signing this policy, you acknowledge to the above terms and accept the penalties that may be handed to the student participant.
