Big Announcement!!!
The Switchboard is evolving! The crisis of Helene is transitioning and ongoing, so we are too. In January 2025, the WNC Mutual Aid Switchboard announced that it would condense itself into a resource directory where individuals could access resources without the assistance of an operator. We have been working all month to take the connections we have made since Helene and make them available to our community.
Between October 2024 and January 2025, the Switchboard has been connecting individuals to resources and other assistance. We want to continue making those connections, but believe it now makes sense to cut out the "middleman" and provide direct access to a resource directory. We will continue to facilitate individual supply requests at the MADR hub in West Asheville, but will additionally launch a new public resource directory to replace our request form. Our volunteers will curate and vet directory listings, keeping it up-to-date so that community members have the ability to self-direct their own access.
We are also broadening our focus, expanding past hurricane relief to addressing the needs asociated with the “long emergencies” of capitalism, fascism, and climate change.
What this Means:
- You can find resources you would normally ask the switchboard for help finding and directly reach out to those resources
- If you are a resource, or you know of a resource that’s not in the directory, you can add it! Please fill out our resource form! We need you!
- You can continue to fill out the Supplies form to get supplies from the MADR Smith Mill Hub
Please visit the new WNC Resource Directory to find the support you need!
