FELLOWSHIP INFORMATION:
Starting in 2026, the English-language Y. Eva Tan Conservation Reporting Fellowship supports up to 11 fellows per year in our Global Bureau. In addition, Mongabay hosts fellowships in Spanish, Bahasa Indonesia, Portuguese and French (Africa) as well an English-language program in Southeast Asia focused on oceans. TIMELINE:
The 2026 Y. Eva Tan English-language program in the Global Bureau will run June 1 through November 30. Applications will open December 15 and will be accepted through February 1.
EXPECTATIONS & LOGISTICS:
Each fellow is expected to commit to engaging an estimated 10 hours a week and to produce an average of one story per month over the course of the fellowship to be published on Mongabay’s website. Work is remote — fellows must be flexible and have access to the internet to plan assignments accordingly with their editor. Mongabay does not have an office and cannot support work visas. Each fellow will receive $500 USD a month for the duration of the six-month fellowship.
ELIGIBILITY:
This fellowship is intended to provide opportunities for aspiring journalists from low- to upper-middle-income tropical countries who have had little previous experience in or access to international training, education or publishing.
