  • ARIZONA COLLEGE STUDENT VOTING GUIDE

    • REGISTER TO VOTE 
    • The Arizona voter registration deadline was October 7, 2024. Arizona does not allow new voter registration after this date for the 2024 General Election.
    • GET VOTER ID AND OTHER DOCUMENTS 
      • To vote “Federal-only” in the races for President and Congress, you only need to provide Voter ID when voting in person and nothing additional when voting by mail.
      • To vote a “full ballot” of both Federal and State/Local races: Arizona requires Voter ID, Proof of Residency and Proof of Citizenship to be provided before Election Day.
      • Voters who registered using the Federal Voter Registration Application with a social security number and plan to vote in Federal-only races (President and Congress) only need to provide Voter ID without any additional proof of residency or citizenship when they vote in person.
      • If Federal-only voters choose to vote by mail, they do not need to submit any additional ID or documents with the mail ballot.
      • You have until Election Day to email the County Recorder a copy of your Voter Registration Card or other proof of residency, and a copy of Documentary Proof of Citizenship (DPOC) such as your birth certificate or US Passport.
      • Email them soon so that you are registered as a “full-ballot” voter before you go to vote.
      • If you provide these documents when you go to vote or if you vote before they have been processed by the County Recorder, you will vote by provisional ballot with your votes counted towards the state and local races once your documentation is processed.
      • If you submitted your AZ state form with an AZ driver’s license you’re all set.
      • If you submitted the AZ state form with a combination of Proof of Residency and Proof of Citizenship, all you need to bring is Voter ID when you go to vote.
      • If you did not provide any driver’s license or proof of residency or proof of citizenship when you registered with the state form, email the County Recorder to send in that documentation to complete your registration requirements. Contact the County Recorder to find out whether these documents will be accepted with your registration now that the deadline has passed.

      FIND EARLY VOTING POLLING LOCATIONS AND HOURS
       
      • Before going to Early Voting, confirm that your registration has been received and is active.
      • Early in-person voting requires you to vote in the county where you are registered to vote.
      • Remember to bring your Voter ID!
      • You will vote by personal absentee ballot and submit it to the elections official on site.
      • If you are registered as a “Federal-only” voter, your ballot will include only Federal races (President and Congress). “Full ballot” voters will also be able to vote in state and local elections.
      • Get your personal ballot and fill it out completely in blue or black ink.
      • Follow all directions carefully.
      • Sign the envelope and provide your day-time phone number where indicated.
      • Use your standard signature – this will be compared to your signature on file from when you registered.
      • Deliver your ballot to the elections official.
    • FIND POLLING LOCATION
      • Bring Voter ID.
      • Vote Early in the Day: The polls are open from 6 am to 7 pm
      • If you are in line when the polls close, stay in line. Anyone in line must be allowed to vote by law.

      1. You have the right to vote from study abroad or out of state location in every election.
      2. Visit Vote from Abroad to vote from abroad or overseas and have your vote count in Arizona. Don't hesitate to use the chat icon at the bottom of their page for live help.
      3. Active-duty military and military families stationed anywhere in the US or abroad should visit FVAP.GOV to get your military ballot.

    • We do not recommend absentee or voting by mail-in ballot in Arizona when Early Voting or Election Day voting at the polls is a possibility. Mail-in-ballots have very specific instructions and can be “spoiled” if not filled out correctly.

      • Get your personal ballot and fill it out completely in blue or black ink. Although the deadline to request a ballot is Oct 25, request yours no later than Oct 15 to allow time for mail delivery both directions.
      • Follow all directions carefully.

      • Do not add a stamp to the postage prepaid envelope.
      • Mail your ballot as early as possible and no later than Tuesday Oct 22 to give it time to arrive by election day.

      • To register online, your AZ driver's license address needs to match your school address, so you will need to update that through the DMV before registering.

      • If you do not want to change your AZ license address, you'll need to register with a paper form. Go to "Register without an AZ Driver's License."

      • Use the Federal Voter Registration Form when registering without an AZ driver’s license. This form will allow you to vote for Federal Races including for President and Congress.

      • Register with the paper voter registration form at a Voter Registration Drive happening your campus before Monday Oct 7th. 

      • The county will send you a Voter Registration Card. This will be your proof of residency.

      • To vote "full ballot" (Federal, state and local offices) start with Federal registration form. You have until October 29 to email the County Recorder a copy of your Voter Registration Card, and a copy of Documentary Proof of Citizenship (DPOC) such as your birth certificate or US Passport.

      • Despite confusing wording on the voter registration form you do NOT need "proof of residence" to register to vote. Just the final four digits of our social security number.

      • If you live in a dorm at a college with a mailroom in a different building, you must find your dorm's street address (google it) and use that address as your "Home Address" for voter registration.

      • Only use your mailroom address as your "Mailing Address" for voter registration.
