Thank you so much for your interest in volunteering with The Refugee Centre! Please take a moment to review the available volunteer positions and apply for any that resonate with you. • Food Haul Crew (Mondays from 1:30 PM to 2:30 PM)

Join the team every Monday to help stock our food bank! You’ll be moving large grocery hauls from the delivery car to the kitchen (elevator included), so get ready for some lifting. Your effort ensures our shelves are full and ready for the daily 11 a.m. food distribution. It’s a great way to stay active while supporting the community! We also need people to help with the distribution on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 10:45 am to 12:00 pm.

  • Receptionist (Wednesdays or Thursdays)

Ready to practice your language skills while helping people from all over the world? As our receptionist volunteer, you'll greet clients, direct them to appointments, and handle phone calls—all in a fast-paced environment. But don’t worry, you’ll have our office admin by your side to help manage the busy flow. If you love staying organized and being the go-to person for a vibrant community, this role is perfect for you!

  • IRCC Portal Workshop at PRAIDA Assistant (Mondays from 10:15 to 1:45)

Join us every other Monday at PRAIDA, where many asylum seekers live, and help residents complete their refugee claims online. You’ll assist those with lower digital literacy by guiding them through typing and filling out forms. It’s a rewarding way to support the community and connect with a dedicated team in a unique setting!

  • Computer Workshop Assistant (Tuesdays from 10 AM to 12:30 PM)

Do you want to help empower newcomers through technology? Join our computer workshop every Tuesday morning where we teach computer skills for education, employment and integration. You will assist the teacher by personally attending to students with questions and challenges. This is an exciting new initiative by The Refugee Centre and your input will be invaluable for developing future courses under the Digital Literacy Program.

  • Orientation Workshop Assistant (Tuesdays from 2 PM to 5 PM)

Join our Thursday afternoon orientation workshops and help newcomers with key tasks like registering for francization, applying for social assistance, and making appointments to exchange foreign driver's licenses. Because there’s a lot to learn, we’re looking for volunteers who can commit to coming every week. It’s a rewarding opportunity to build your skills, be part of a welcoming team, and make a big impact in the lives of newcomers!

  • IRCC Portal Workshop Assistant (Wednesday from 9 AM to 12 PM and from 2 PM to 5 PM)

Join our Wednesday IRCC portal workshops and make a real impact by helping newcomers submit their refugee claims online! You’ll guide clients through simple steps like filling out forms and uploading documents, offering support to those who need an extra hand. It’s a rewarding way to connect with people and be part of a supportive, enthusiastic team!

  • French Conversation Circle Leader (2 hours per week outside of work hours)

Are you passionate about empowering newcomers through language? We’re seeking experienced and dynamic volunteers to lead French conversation circles at The Refugee Centre. In this role, you’ll guide and support newcomers in developing their French language skills, helping them build confidence and integrate into the community. We're looking for fluent French speakers with experience in leading conversation groups or tutoring. This is a meaningful opportunity to make a lasting impact, with one two-hour session per week held outside regular work hours.

  • Software Developer Volunteer (Remote, Asynchronous)

Are you a software developer looking to make a positive impact? The Refugee Centre is seeking volunteers with a range of tech skills to help improve our systems and services. Whether you're passionate about coding, data analysis, web development, or app creation, we have exciting projects where your expertise can make a real difference. We're open to creative solutions and new ideas, so if you're eager to use your skills for a meaningful cause, we'd love to hear from you!

  • Translator Volunteer (Remote, Project-Based)

Do you want to use your language skills to help support newcomers? The Refugee Centre is looking for volunteers fluent in English and either French, Spanish, or Arabic to assist with translating materials on a project basis. As part of our volunteer translation team, you’ll help ensure that key information is accessible to our diverse community. This flexible, remote role allows you to contribute when specific translation projects arise. If you're passionate about language and want to make an impact, join our translation bank!

  • Language Tutor Volunteer (Minimum 10 week commitment)

Do you want to use your language teaching skills to help support newcomers? This role involves a ten-week commitment where you will tutor a client in our office space to help them on their French or English learning journey. As part of our tutoring team, you'll get to work one-on-one with a client. You must have experience working with refugees/asylum seekers or tutoring experience.

  • Artist Volunteer (Project-Based)

Are you a passionate artist with a heart for community? The Refugee Centre is seeking volunteers to help make our space more welcoming and inspiring through art. Whether you’d like to donate a piece, paint a mural, or propose a creative installation that empowers, celebrates cultural identity, or conveys the journey of migration, we’d love to hear from you. Submit your proposal and portfolio below to help create an environment where newcomers feel seen, safe, and connected.
