At Wheatland Farm, new riders begin with a comprehensive lesson assessment to ensure a safe and tailored experience. Our instructors evaluate riders' current abilities, goals, and any accommodations needed, focusing on balance, coordination, and comfort on horseback. Though most assessments are conducted on horseback, sometimes instructors will opt to evaluate a rider using our Equicizer, "Stix", to provide an assessment. Following the assessment, riders are offered a place in either group lessons with peers of similar skill levels or in private half-hour lessons for absolute beginners or individuals with disabilities, depending on need, and availability of lesson spaces.
Our lesson program operates on a quarterly basis, aligned with the Loudoun County Public Schools' academic year, offering approximately nine lessons per quarter. Most riders opt for one lesson per week, and all lessons are provided on a "use it or lose it" basis, meaning missed lessons are not carried forward to ensure consistency in training. We offer a variety of lessons, including therapeutic riding for individuals with disabilities, para equestrian training, and inclusive lessons for community riders without disabilities.
Wheatland Farm is proud to be a USEF Center of Excellence for International Para Dressage, offering world-class training opportunities. We are also a fully licensed United States Pony Club Riding Center, fostering young equestrians in a supportive and educational environment. Notably, Wheatland Farm is one of the few equestrian centers in the nation to have hosted a qualifier for the World Equestrian Games for the U.S. Para Dressage Team. Our program emphasizes skill-building, safety, and community, creating an inclusive space for riders of all abilities. We look forward to welcoming you!
