  • Presentation of the project

  • Through the following survey, LivingSoiLL invites you to become part of our Community of Practice (CoP), joining a group of a wide range of stakeholders interested in the exchange of experiences and best practices, for enabling knowledge flow between aspects related to promoting the adoption of locally adapted innovations and soil literacy. LivingSoiLL “Healthy Soil to Permanent Crops Living Labs”, is a Horizon Europe project that is funded by the European Commission within the framework of the EU MISSION ‘A Soil Deal for Europe’. The Soil Mission aims to lead the transition to healthy soil via sustainable soil management.

LivingSoiLL intends to establish 5 Living Labs (LLs):  in Portugal, France, Spain, Italy, and Poland. They will focus on permanent crops (vineyards, olive groves, chestnuts, hazelnuts, and apple orchards), comprising at least 50 demonstration sites and 10 lighthouses, and with the active participation of more than 2000 local actors.

These LLs will focus on improving healthy soils and ecosystem services through co-creating, co-implementing, and co-testing (digital) solutions to:

    • reduce erosion,
    • improve soil structure,
    • reduce the impacts of the intensive use of fertilizers and pesticides,
    • increase water storage,
    • enhance soil biodiversity,
    • and develop an overall resilience of soil.

  • Definition of a living lab

Living Labs are a place where citizens,  farmers, experts, technologist researchers, artists, businesses, and public sector organizations can come together to co-create ideas, tools, and technologies that will address local challenges.

It’s a place for innovation and exploring new possibilities but where reflection and evaluation are built into the working process to make sure the Living Lab can be flexible and responsible to the changing needs of stakeholders and communities.

“A Living Lab is an orchestrator of an open innovation process focusing on the co-creation of innovations in real-world contexts by involving multi-stakeholders to generate sustainable values for all stakeholders focusing in particular on end-user”
