Purpose of the project: To help beautify Monte Vista, increase interest in our city, and attract more tourist attention!
What does it mean to sponsor a crane? In support of the project, a crane or cranes can be sponsored for $200 each. This does NOT reflect ownership of the completed crane, simply participation in the project. However, an additional $75 “buy back” represents ownership of the crane at the completion of the project. This fee can be paid with sponsorship or when the cranes come down toward the end of August.
How are artists selected? Sponsors can find their own artists, or the Monte Vista Chamber of Commerce can help find an artist. It is up to the artist and sponsor to decide what type of media/material is applied in the silhouette creation (painted, welded, mosaics, tiled, be creative!). The Chamber of Commerce reserves the right not to display any silhouette that it determines may be inappropriate.
Weather protection of the cranes: Completed silhouettes will be on display on the light poles in Monte Vista from March thru August (6 months). Durability of color and creative renditions is therefore of great importance. Completed works will need to be clear coated with a protective finish. Keep in mind the potential damaging impact of wind, rain, snow, and our high-altitude UV.
Taking care of those awesome artists! It is hoped that sponsors will help support their artists for their time and material costs. The Monte Vista Chamber of Commerce will also provide $85 per silhouette to artists to help defray the cost of materials.
How can I own one of these completed cranes? The Monte Vista Chamber of Commerce owns a copyright of the crane silhouette used for the project so by far the best way to own a crane is to sponsor and crane and use the “buy back” option. The other option is to bid on one of the cranes that goes to auction in September.
