Title: Senior Laboratory Planner
Locations: Hybrid - can either work remotely or in/near any of their studio locations (Irvine, San Diego, Sacramento, San Jose, CA; Dallas, San Antonio, TX; and soon-to-be Austin, TX).

The Senior Lab Planner will provide inspirational leadership and guidance from a strategic business and design perspective that combines an understanding of regional and market factors with firm operational goals and targets. They will develop and promote the firm’s vision, mission, and core values. They are accountable to the firm for the success of their project teams, responsible for the efficient management, development, and career growth of assigned personnel, as well as the financials of the studio/practice area.

Responsibilities:
- Oversee laboratory planning and programming of various-sized pharmaceuticals, academic research, biotech, or other emerging technical facilities.
- Provide technical expertise and leadership for laboratory facilities in the areas of programming, design, fit‐out planning, equipment planning, MEP systems integration planning, casework specification, and construction administration.
- Experience includes working directly with clients, senior management, scientists, laboratory managers, technicians, facilities project managers, and other project stakeholders in determining and documenting programmatic requirements.
- Design of creative spaces that define and shape the principles of innovative laboratory design.
- Lead documentation of laboratory systems such as casework, lab equipment, and development of laboratory spaces.
- Lead in the design development, modification and/or review of laboratory planning concepts for clients, designers, and project team.
- Provide guidance to project managers, architects, and project engineers to establish overall project budgets and milestone schedules.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Architecture, Interior Design, or related field.
- 15+ years of related experience is required.
- Architecture or Interior Design licensure and LEED AP preferred.
- 10+ years of experience focused on programming, planning, and designing all phases of a variety of laboratory types such as clinical, biocontainment, research and development, academic teaching and research pharmaceutical, physical science, and advanced technology facilities.
- Experience with designing animal research, clean rooms, and GMP manufacturing facilities preferred.
- Advanced knowledge of technical and regulatory requirements for laboratory design.
- Advanced experience with technical coordination of all disciplines to achieve proposed lab design.
- Advanced experience with laboratory programming, lab design, preparation of quality construction documents, specifications, permit processing, and construction administration.
- Knowledge of sustainability, integrated design, and LEED guidelines.
Strong written and verbal communication skills: focused, articulate, and motivated. Ability to convey and present laboratory planning concepts and requirements to clients. Collaborates with designers and mentors other team members.
- Experience with proposal development, interview participation, and presentations.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Bluebeam Revu is required.
- Knowledge of CAD, Revit, and Adobe Creative Suite is preferred.
- Enthusiastic commitment to the multidisciplinary design process and team environment.
- Ability to travel locally and nationally up to 30% of the time.
