Criteria and Description of the Nursing Student Scholarship Award
Purpose
The purpose of the Scholarship Award is to encourage and support the education of members of the Greater New York City Black Nurses Association (GNYCBNA) , Inc who demonstrate leadership and scholastic excellence.
Scholarship Fund
The amount of awards distributed and amount of scholarships are dependent on the availability of funds in the chapter scholarship fund. Scholarships are awarded on a competitive basis using the following criteria:
1.Quality of personal statement and completed application
2.Contribution or potential contribution to the field of nursing and mission of the National Black Nurses Association
3. Scholarship fund budget and number of applications submitted.
Scholarship Committee
The Scholarship Committee consists of a chairperson and other members as designated by the GNYCBNA. The committee receives and evaluates each application. Presentation of awards will be made at the GNYCBNA Scholarship and Awards Gala.
Expectations
Scholarship recipients are encouraged to become an active member of the GNYCBNA and National Black Nurses Association, Inc. Active membership means contributing to GNYC-BNA through attending chapter meetings, events, and volunteering.
Award Criteria and Eligibility
Licensed Practical Nursing Student Scholarship
- Must be enrolled in a LPN nursing program on a part time or full time basis.
- Must have attained an overall grade point average of 3.0 with no incomplete grades.
- Must be able to demonstrate involvement in activities within the community and overall leadership activities.
- Must have at least one semester left in your program to be eligible to use the award.
Undergraduate Registered Nursing Student Scholarship (Associates or Bachelors Degree)
- Must be currently enrolled in a nursing program on a part time or full-time basis.
- Must have attained an overall grade point average of 3.0 with no incomplete grades.
- Must be able to demonstrate involvement in activities within the community and overall leadership activities.
- Must have at least one semester left in your program to be eligible to use the award.
Masters Student Scholarship
- Must be enrolled in a Master’s Program on a full time or part-time basis.
- Must be eligible and accepted into Greater New York City Black Nurses Association.
- Must have attained an overall grade point average of 3.0 with no incomplete grades.
- Must demonstrate accomplishment and leadership in professional and community activities.
- Must have at least one semester left in your program to be eligible to use the award.
Doctoral Student Scholarship
The purpose of the scholarship is to advance the practice of nursing for nurses pursuing a terminal degree (PhD, DNP, and EdD) in a healthcare related field. The amount of funds requested, the number of requests, and the availability of funds in the chapter scholarship fund will determine the amount of a research award grant.
1. Must be enrolled in a Doctoral Program on a full time or part-time basis.
2. Must be eligible and accepted into Greater New York City Black Nurses Association.
3. Must have attained an overall grade point average of 3.0 and no incomplete grades.
4. Must demonstrate accomplishment and leadership in professional and community activities.
5. Must have at least one semester left in your program to be eligible to use the award.
Application Guidelines
Applicants are responsible for submitting a complete application packet. Incomplete packets will not be considered.
All materials are due no later than on August 15th, 2025.
