What is expected of a summer camp staff member at the Airfield 4-H Educational Center?
Working at camp is probably one of the most demanding jobs that you will ever have. However, it can also be one of the most rewarding experiences too!
Be a positive role model and assist in all operations of camp.
Work cooperatively with Extension Agents and Adult Volunteers to provide a safe, positive, fun, and memorable camping experience for all.
Typically, 4-H Center summer staff have completed at least one year of college.
Strong candidates also have work and/or volunteer experience in 4-H, teaching, and/or youth development programming. Regardless of previous experience, successful applicants demonstrate certain personal attributes including (but not limited to):

We believe that camp is a place for both children and staff to learn and grow. Most summer staff have a primary program area assignment. However, we are seeking candidates who are interested and willing to participate in other programming areas in addition to their primary role based on each weeks’ specific needs.

The work week typically Monday through Friday and a minimum of two weekends.

A typical week has a Monday morning start time of 7am and a Friday afternoon end time of 2pm.
If you are unable to be present for the dates below, please strongly consider your ability to commit to working at the 4-H center this summer. Summer 2025 dates are as follows:
- April 11-13: TALT (nonmandatory unpaid training; all lodging and meals are covered)
- May 12-16: State Staff Training (registration fees; all certifications, lodging, and meals are covered by the Center)
- May 19-30: Center Staff Training
- June 9-13: Specialty Camp
- June 16-20: Dinwiddie Jr. Camp
- June 23-27: Isle of Wight and Southampton Jr. Camp
- June 30-July 4: Prince George Jr. Camp
- July 7-11: FAB 4 Jr. Camp
- July 14-18: Chesapeake Jr. Camp
- July 21-25: SAGEN Jr. Camp
- July 28-Aug 1: Virginia Beach Jr. Camp
- August 4-8: All staff clean up
