"A richly suggestive and beautifully written piece of work.... Kirkwood is the most rewarding dramatist of her generation." Paul Taylor, The Independent
FUSION will lead you into the apocalyptic world of playwright Lucy Kirkwood’s THE CHILDREN beginning November 14th. FUSION co-founder Jacqueline Reid directs the play, which stars Elizabeth Huffman, Laurie Thomas and Matthew Yde.
Speaking at a live interview in London, Lucy Kirkwood shared, “The play came to me as a sort of chemical reaction over time…with characters looking extinction in the face and our human instinct to grow.” Populating the world of her play are three nuclear scientist pals Hazel, Robin, and Rose. They convene in a cottage on the outskirts of a melting nuclear plant. They reminisce, toss a lot of salad, dance, do a little yoga and… take each other to task with the ultimate existential question “who is responsible for this shit?” Several surprises are set into action as the day grows long and time grows short.
