The “Graciela” is an automatic pill and water dispensing device designed to improve medication safety and independence. It alerts caregivers if a user doesn’t take their medication on time or misses a dose entirely.

About the size of a coffee maker, the Graciela helps seniors maintain independence, supports caregivers in achieving better work-life balance, and leads to safer health outcomes through improved medication compliance.

Through the Care Circle app, caregivers can:

đź’ŠCreate and edit medication schedules remotely
    đź’ŠView history and compliance reports
    đź’ŠReceive instant missed-dose notifications

    Current device capabilities include:

    đź’§Automatic pill & water dispensing
    đź’§Emergency notification settings
    đź’§Customizable time frames for alerts
    đź’§Remote scheduling through the app
    đź’§Compact, countertop-friendly sizing
đź’§Completely hands-free dispense (ideal for arthritis or tremors)

Today, the Graciela holds up to 50 individual pills and 1 quart of water. Our next development milestone is expanding storage to a 90-day pill supply and a full gallon of water with the goal of reducing caregiver refills to just once every two weeks.

Now here’s where we really need your help.

So far, you’ve seen how the device automatically dispenses medications and water: the core functionality.

But one of the most important next steps for us is designing a loading and organizing system that’s simple, safe, and actually works for people like YOU.

We’ve intentionally left this part open because we want to learn from you: how should medications ideally be loaded and organized? Your input here will directly shape the next phase of the device.

  • What level of effort would feel acceptable for you when loading meds?*
  • How important would it be for the device to help you organize pills (vs. just dispensing what you already pre-sorted)?*
  • If you were loading this device with medications, which style would feel most natural and least confusing to you?

    1. Pre-filled cartridges/trays: You (or a pharmacy) prepare medication in advance inside a cartridge or tray, then you drop the whole cartridge into the device at once.

     2. Individual compartments: The device has multiple slots/cups, and you place pills directly into each one for the correct day/time.

    3. Bulk loading: You pour a whole bottle of one type of pill into a section, and the device automatically sorts/doses them over time.

  • If you were loading this device with medications, which style would feel most natural and least confusing to you?*
