  • Thank you for your interest in residencies at Green Olive Arts, Tetouan, Morocco. We accept applications year round. All residencies are artist funded. Following receipt of a completed application, with a non-refundable 200 MAD application fee (about $20 USD) and any related documents, the review process takes approximately 2 weeks.

Residency seasons, for artists of all disciplines, are either 3 or 6 weeks long. Artists who have specific facilities’ needs should contact Green Olive Arts to determine if our studios will accommodate their work.

The residency fee is tiered based on the length of the residency season and whether or not you desire a completely private space. Because we hold a high value of community and collaboration, the majority of our spaces are set up as shared spaces, where 2-3 artists are at work. This will likely be an international mix as well, encouraging creative influence across cultures. The Residency Fees, in Moroccan Dirhams (MAD), for self-directed, staff-resourced residencies are as follows:

3-week residency 10,000 MAD shared studio / 15,000 MAD private studio

6-week residency 19,000 MAD shared studio / 29,000 MAD private studio

The Residency Fee does not include particular art supplies, travel, meals or housing. Green Olive Arts provides a list of recommended housing with our partnering providers which accepted artists may book independently - hotels, bed and breakfasts, homestay or private riads /apartments - some of which offer discounts for GOA Artists in Residence. Housing costs may vary depending on the time of year (summer is peak tourist season). Accepted artists in residence will receive a budget sketch upon request as well as any official documentation needed to seek funding from grant organizations.

Please be aware that once you have been accepted, a deposit is required (30% of your total residency fee), to secure your studio space, due within 14 days acceptance.

We are excited that you are interested in an art residency at Green Olive Arts, and we are eager to get to know you in the process. Please complete the following information so that our Selection Panel can make a decision about your proposed goals and your fit with our schedule and program.

If you click SAVE at the bottom of the form while working on it, you may then return to edit your responses later before finally submitting the application. You can choose to skip "create an account" and will be given the option to receive an email with a link to return to the application.

After you complete the form, and click the SUBMIT button at the bottom of the form, you will receive an email confirmation, with a link to pay your application fee.

  • Health Notes

    1. If accepted, you will be required to sign a health waiver as part of the contract, releasing Green Olive Arts from liability.
    2. If you have any health conditions at all, you must notify Green Olive Arts. Failure to inform us of serious health issues could result in your being sent home and possible loss of your investment.
    3. The city has a few steep hills and the streets and sidewalks are sometimes uneven or broken. It can be a challenge to get around if you have a physical disability that makes walking difficult.
    4. Medical services are generally affordable here, but we require that clients at least have travel medical insurance that includes medical evacuation (most travel medical policies cover this). Lonelylpanet.com will give you a quote. Otherwise, general practitioners and walk-in clinics are typically cash based ($15-30 USD per consultation)
    5. Morocco is a developing country with medical facilities that are improving all the time. They are decent, but not quite up to Western standards. Relatively good care is available from local private clinics, and in the case of serious issues, Spain is close by. That said, if you regularly need a lot of medical care, we recommend you reconsider.
    6. There are pharmacies where you can get typical medications, but if you require a specific brand, we suggest that you bring it with you.

  • Terms & Conditions

    1. Housing - Green Olive Arts is a professional studio space set up to accommodate creative production, collaboration and research. We do not provide housing. Artists may find and book their own housing or may choose from a list of vetted and approved GOA housing partners - private apartments, Moroccan riads, home-stays with a Moroccan family and a variety of hotels.

    2. Funding/costs - Visiting Artists are responsible for seeking their own funding through various available grants, and are responsible for all the costs related to the Residency, including but not limited to Residency Fees, costs of travel, housing, meals, tours and supplies.

    3. Deposit - To confirm participation in a residency, an accepted artist is required to pay a non-refundable deposit equal to 30% of the total residency fee within two weeks of receiving the acceptance notification. Failure to make this payment by the stated deadline will be interpreted as a withdrawal, and the residency offer may be extended to another applicant. The application fee and deposit are non-refundable.

    4. Acceptance - If Accepted, the Artist will receive an Artist Response Form and Residency Agreement, detailing more fully the terms and conditions of the Residency, as well as instructions for paying the deposit.

    5. Payment - The remaining 70% balance of the residency fee is due no later than 90 days before the residency start date. If an Artist is accepted less than 90 days before the residency start date, the full fee is due within one week of acceptance. Cancellation and refund terms still apply.

    6. Cancellation & Refund - The application fee and deposit are non-refundable.  If cancellation occurs more than 90 days before the start date, the Artist will receive a full refund of the paid 70% balance.  Cancellations between 60 and 90 days before the start date are eligible for a 50% refund of the total residency fee.  Cancellations between 30 and 60 days before the start date are eligible for a 25% refund of the total residency fee.  No refunds will be given for cancellations less than 30 days before the start date. All fees paid will be forfeited.  If Green Olive Arts cancels a residency for any reason, all fees paid (deposit and balance) will be refunded in full.

    7. Rescheduling -If an Artist in Residence cancels and wishes to reschedule, the above cancellation policy will apply. The Artist may schedule a new residency without submitting a new application, pending availability. A new deposit will be required, and any eligible refund from the original cancellation may be applied as a credit toward the new dates (unless otherwise requested). This credit must be used for a residency beginning within one calendar year of the original residency dates. After one year, a new application is required and any unused fees will be forfeited.
