  • The Ladies of Jazz

Our theme for JAWS Fest 2025 is "The Ladies of Jazz."
  • For this year's JAWS Youth Art Program, participants are invited to create an original work of art inspired by the powerful and iconic women who have shaped jazz over the decades. From the legends of the past to the groundbreaking artists of today, we celebrate the influence and contributions of female jazz performers and composers.

Explore the lives and music of incredible women like:

Ella Fitzgerald – The First Lady of Song
Billie Holiday – A voice for emotion and resilience
Dinah Washington – The Queen of the Blues
Sarah Vaughan – The Divine One
Lil Greenwood – A hidden gem of jazz from Prichard, AL
Carmen McRae – A master of phrasing and interpretation
Lena Horne – A trailblazer in both film and music
Esperanza Spalding – A contemporary jazz virtuoso
Ledisi – A dynamic voice bridging jazz and soul
Samara Joy – A rising star with a nod to jazz's roots

Let these extraordinary artists inspire your creativity as you celebrate "The Ladies of Jazz" through your unique artistic expression.

We can't wait to see how their legacy influences your work!
