NICAEA TODAY:
Responding to the Contemporary Challenges through the Lens of Nicaea, Flordia - MAY 13-16, 2025.
ANNOUNCEMENT FOR INTERESTED PARTICIPANTS
PROPOSALS
NICEA TODAY, a conference hosted by the St. Athanasius and St. Cyril Theological School in Southern California on the 1,700th anniversary of the first ecumenical council convened in Nicaea, will be held over three days in May 2025. The conference program will comprise plenary lectures and several sessions for short papers.
The conference will explore themes on how theology, pastoral care, and liturgical practices can address the needs of the contemporary church.
While the conference is intended to explore topics and pursue discussions as presented by scholars and academics, interested clergy and laypeople are also strongly encouraged to submit a paper for inclusion in the conference program.
Clergy and laypeople who wish to present a paper should be mindful of these guidelines:
Papers cannot exceed 20 minutes in length.
Papers must be presented in English.
Papers must have a clearly stated argument based on modern research and critical examination of ancient sources and modern scholarly publications.
A paper must contribute to the discussions of one of the themes for the conference. For example, a presenter may wish to identify whether there is a continuum from the fourth-century Nicean theological legacy to the role of religion and Christian practice in 21st century North American social policies.
A speaker must rely on a completed and prepared written text.
A supporting slide deck or visual aid is required.
A complete draft of a paper must be presented for review at a minimum of three months before the start of the conference. Failure to meet this deadline will result in the speaker’s removal from the program.
Allow for, and be prepared, to answer questions from conference attendees.
A speaker must submit a brief personal profile to be included in the conference packet.
For further information on submitting a proposal, contact macarius.refela@acts.school or the designated representative for your diocese.
