This course is the second level of crash investigation training and builds upon the foundational knowledge covered in Basic Crash Investigation.  Officers will learn how to utilize the evidence gathered at the scene of a crash to solve complex problems.  The course incorporates hands-on exercises and case studies to equip participants with the skills to handle complex crash investigations precisely and confidently.

This class will prepare the student for the Crash Reconstruction Class and a variety of Specialty Crash Classes.

Some Topics Covered in Basic Crash Investigation include:

    • Vehicle dynamics
    • Work and energy dynamics
    • Acceleration and deceleration factor and rate
    • Time and distance
    • Vehicle speed from a yaw mark
    • Advanced Math Review
    • Airborne Crashes
    • Momentum
    • Introduction to Vectors

This course benefits any Officer aiming to develop the technical skills required for in-depth crash analysis and to confidently handle complex investigations involving serious or fatal crashes.

This level of training introduces the student to advanced crash investigation math equations.  Officers attending this class should have an understanding of algebra and trigonometry.

Students must bring a basic scientific calculator (cell phone use as a calculator is prohibited), a 360-degree protractor, colored pencils, and the drawing template issued in Basic Crash Class.

Prerequisites: Completing NJ Basic Crash Investigation course or equivalent experience is required.

If you have any questions or problems enrolling, contact Rich Maxwell at maxweric@kean.edu or rlmax@att.net or by cell phone (732) 567-7431.
