• EEG study on the neural representation of short stories

Thank you for your interest in this study. Before you come in to learn more about the study, it would be helpful to see if you are likely to qualify to be in the study. In order to do this, you will be asked four eligibility questions, which will include one about your age, one about your native language(s), and two about your neurological health. It should take about one minute to go through these questions. You do not have to answer any question that you would not like to answer, but without answers to these questions, you will not be eligible to participate in the study. We will not record your name or any other information that would identify you on this form until we know you have qualified for the study; at that time, we will keep this information secure. If you do not enroll in this study, we will keep the information we collect during this pre-screening but there will be no way for anyone to link that information to you. We are also required to give you the number of University of Colorado – Boulder IRB, the Ethics Board that oversees our research: it is (303) 735-3702, in case you have any questions or concerns for them. The IRB Protocol associated with this study is 24-0521.
  • Sorry, based one one or more of your answers, you are not eligible to participate in our study. Thank you for your interest!

  • We invite you to take part in a research study because you are between the ages of 18 and 40 and you are a native speaker of English with no recent TBI or language-related cognitive impairments.

Key information about this study: There will be one session that will last roughly 90 minutes.  You will wear a cap with sensors. Each sensor will have a small amount of water-soluble gel placed in it by a dull-tipped syringe.  There will be two additional sensors placed on your face and one on your forearm using skin-safe stickers. Those areas will be cleaned with an alcohol pad and exfoliated using a gel. If you have a history of skin allergies or reactivity to aluminum oxide, let an experimenter know when you arrive at the lab and we will not use the abrasive gel. You will read short stories, with some sentences appearing one word at a time on a screen. Participation is voluntary. You will be given $20 per hour (calculated by the half-hour rounded up, maximum of $40) upon completion of this study. If you would like to participate in this study, please complete the following questions.
