In support of its mission to promote and preserve the art of basket making the Northwest Basket Weavers, Vi Phillips Guild offers monetary grants and scholarships to its members.
Grants are available for special projects including, but not limited to; participation at lectures, workshops, conferences and Guild events, exhibition preparation, and research projects.
Award Amount- $10-1000
Deadline- Applications are accepted year-round
Eligibility
Grants are available to all members in good standing who have been members for at least one year prior to the application date. No more than $1000 in grant funds may be awarded to the same individual within a three-year window.
Application Procedure
Complete and submit the following application form no less than 45 days before the money is needed. Applications must include a project description, estimated budget and commitment to share the grant-funded project with the Guild community–see Recipient Requirements below.
Applications requesting funding for Willow Fest NW 2026 must apply by March 1, 2026 to have your applicaion reviewed before WF registration opens on April 19, 2026.
Evaluation Criteria
Proposals will be evaluated by the applicant’s written proposal, project feasibility and adherence to the NWBW mission statement. Applications are reviewed by the Grants Committee, then submitted to the Board of Directors for final approval. The Grants Committee will notify applicants of their approval status via email. Grant recipients will be announced in the Guild newsletter.
Recipient Requirements
To meet the Guild’s mission statement objective of promoting the art of basket making, grant recipients shall share their grant-funded project with the wider Guild community. Examples include a write-up or photo spread for the newsletter, or a short presentation or workshop at a monthly meeting. Grant Committee members will work with grant recipients to fulfill this requirement.
If the grant-funded project is canceled or otherwise not completed, the recipient will refund the grant amount to the Guild at the Board’s request.
