Like many other families, my household has to deal with an unacceptable amount of junk mail weekly. It is estimated about 4 million tons of paper or roughly 100 million trees are cut down for junk mail each year in the United States.
Additionally, we spend our precious time sorting through and discarding piles of unwanted mail.
As of now, communicating our desire to stop receiving this unsolicited mail is an uphill task due to a lack of an easy and direct communication method.
That's why I believe that federal lawmakers should pass legislation requiring businesses sending commercial mail using mailing lists to incorporate a QR code on their mail pieces. This QR code will pave the way for consumers to more easily remove themselves from the advertiser's mailing list.
This is a call to effect this change which will not only safeguard our forests, minimize waste, but also save us the time we can redeploy for more productive activities.
I am signing this petition as support for the implementation of this legislation, to protect our planet and conserve our time, one QR coded mail at a time.
