  • Magnum Opus is a 12-month artist development programme for three UK-based early-career composers looking to develop their skills in orchestral writing and gain a deeper understanding of orchestral management. 

    We are looking for three composers who are looking for a deep learning experience working with an internationally renowned orchestra.

    Britten Sinfonia requests information from applicants to all programmes for monitoring and reporting purposes. The below questions are for monitoring purposes and this section will only be seen by Britten Sinfonia staff. The information you give here does not affect the scoring system and the selection panel review process, and final decisions are made based on scores, eligibility criteria and the examples of the work you submit. In all cases, you have the option of 'Prefer not to say' but we encourage you to answer all questions.
    • Modern professional occupations such as: teacher, nurse, physiotherapist, social worker, musician, police officer (sergeant or above), software designer.
    • Clerical and intermediate occupations such as: secretary, personal assistant, clerical worker, call centre agent, nursery nurse.
    • Senior managers or administrators (usually responsible for planning, organising and co-ordinating work, and for finance) such as: finance manager, chief executive.
    • Technical and craft occupations such as: motor mechanic, plumber, printer, electrician, gardener, train driver.
    • Semi-routine manual and service occupations such as: postal worker, machine operative, security guard, caretaker, farm worker, catering assistant, sales assistant.
    • Routine manual and service occupations such as: HGV driver, cleaner, porter, packer, labourer, waiter/waitress, bar staff.
    • Middle or junior managers such as: office manager, retail manager, bank manager, restaurant manager, warehouse manager.
    • Traditional professional occupations such as: accountant, solicitor, medical practitioner, scientist, civil / mechanical engineer.
