Climate Action Families is launching a new program for youth (ages 10-17) to explore how climate justice intersects with fashion! Our pilot event will be on October 18, 10am-12:30pm, at Cathy Hillendbrand Community Room (Capitol Hill) where we will gather several fiber artists and sustainable fashion supporters to join a conversation with youth all about fashion, textiles and climate.
As part of this conversation, students will gain exposure to different areas of climate-friendly fashion design and production. There will be hands-on demos, and students will get to share their choice of topics for a future workshop series in summer 2027. Possible workshops include:
- Sewing
- Mending
- Macramé
- Patchwork
- Textile recognition
- Deconstruction
- Dyeing
By the end of the workshops, students will get to showcase their own eco-fashion creations to the public, sparking a community conversation about sustainable practices and cultural connections between clothing and local fashion.
Join Climate Action Families in nurturing a generation of informed, passionate, and healthy climate justice advocates. Our programs explore the incredible ways we can tackle climate change, including amplifying our voices, making sustainable choices, helping our community deploy new solutions, changing our laws and governance, and igniting enthusiasm in our communities to create a more vibrant world. Events are organized into themed blocks interspersed with movement, art, and play. Facilitators focus on the many ways to participate in the Climate Justice movement, the historical significance of youth activism, and the skills of visioning, communication, and resilience.
This event is free, and snacks and lunch will be provided. New and returning participants are welcome and encouraged! No prior experience required.
