  • 1. Judging Criteria

    The judges will be asked to determine which contestant’s facial hair best enhances his overall appearance, style, and personality. In the freestyle categories, the judges will be asked to consider originality and creativity as well.

     

    Rules

    The Just for Men Movember Beard and Moustache Competitions are open to all competitors, regardless of nationality, race, religion, or club or team affiliation.
     

    At package pick-up, competitors who do not meet the qualifications for the category in which they have registered will be placed into the correct category.
     
    By registering for the competition, all competitors give their permission to the organizers and to the organizers’ designees that the competitors will be photographed, videotaped, and tape-recorded and further that the organizers and their designees may use the photographs, videotapes, and audiotapes of the competitor for any purpose including commercial purposes.
     

    In those categories with 15 or fewer contestants and in the final round, judges will rank only the winner.


    Any competitor who does not appear when called to the stage will be eliminated.
     
    The organizers reserve the right to modify these rules at any time. Any rule modifications will be announced publicly before the competition begins.
     
    All decisions of the judges and organizers are final.
     
    The judges will receive no information regarding judging except for the official judging criteria which are available to the public. Any judge who is personally acquainted with any of the competitors may not vote in the category in which such competitor competes.
     
    Discourteous, abusive, or unprofessional behavior by a contestant may lead to disqualification at the organizers’ discretion.
     
    Artificial facial hair is not permitted by the participants.
     
    The term “aids” as used in the category descriptions means artificial styling aids such as mustache wax, hair spray, hair cream, styling foam, hair gel, hairpins, rubber bands, hair ties, and the like.

    Due to time constraints, the competition will be limited to the first 300 contestants who register. 

    How do I register? 

    Register here. You can do so up until a few days before the big event.

    What category should I enter?

    Take a look at the category descriptions.  Enter the category with the description that comes closest to what you rock.  If you enter the wrong category, we will put you into the right category at registration.

    What are the judging criteria?

    The judges are asked to choose the contestants whose facial hair best enhances their overall appearance, style, and personality.

    Do I have to qualify to enter the contest?

    No.  Just grow a beard or moustache, register, and show up.

    I am not in a beard club.  Can I compete anyway?

    Yes, the competition is open to everyone.

    Who are the judges?

    The judges are distinguished individuals chosen for their fairness.  None of the judges know any of the competitors.

     

    Is there a women’s category

    No, but women are welcome to compete in any of the categories.  No fake facial hair, please.

    Can kids come to the contest?

    Yes, this is a family-friendly event that is fun for all.

    How will the Movember Beard and Moustache Competition Take place?

    Purpose and aim of this competition?

    This Competition is an initiative of The Cancer Association of Mauritius, and Movember is the month that aims at  Creating awareness on Men’s Health issues with a focus on Prostate Cancer and Men’s Mental health to reduce suicide. Men are encouraged to grow their mustaches in support of the cause.

    How much do I need to pay to register?

    The competition is absolutely free.

  • 3. Categories


    The categories of the 2016 National Beard and Moustache Championships will follow the traditional categories of the World Championships.

    Moustache

    Natural Moustache

    Mustache may be styled but without aids. The hairs are allowed to start growing from up to a maximum of 1.5 cm beyond the end of the upper lip. No aids are allowed.

     

    English Moustache

    Slender, beginning from the middle of the upper lip with the hairs extremely long and pulled to the side. Tips may be lifted slightly. The hairs are only allowed to start growing up to the end of the upper lip. Aids are allowed.

     

    Dali Moustache

    Slender with long tips, straight up or arching up. The hairs are only allowed to start growing up to the end of the upper lip. Aids are allowed.

     

    Imperial Moustache

    Small and bushy with tips arching up. The hairs are only allowed to start growing up to the end of the upper lip. Aids are allowed.

     

    Hungarian Moustache

    Big and bushy, beginning from the middle of the upper lip and pulled to the side. The hairs are allowed to start growing from up to a maximum of 1.5 cm beyond the end of the upper lip. Aids are allowed.

    Freestyle Moustache

    All moustaches that do not match other classes. The hairs are allowed to start growing from up to a maximum of 1.5 cm beyond the end of the upper lip. Aids are allowed.

     

    Partial Beard

    Natural Goatee

    Facial hair grown only on chin, upper and lower lip. Beard and moustache may be styled but without aids. Aids are not allowed. Moustache
    not required.

     

    Fu Manchu

    Chin shaved with moustache allowed to start to grow up to a maximum of 2 cm beyond and below the end of the upper lip. Tips are long and pulled down. Aids are allowed.

     

    Imperial Partial Beard

    Hair on the cheeks and upper lip. There must be clean shaven spaces of at least 4 cm wide (the width of a razor blade) on the chin and between the facial hair and the onset of the head hair. The whiskers are styled upwards. No closed curls. The hairs on the upper lip may not be separated from the hairs on the cheeks. The hairs may not be too long, not above the level of the eyes.
    Styling aids are allowed.

     

    Musketeer

    Moustache long and slender. Hairs are allowed to start growing from up to maximum of 1.5 cm beyond the end of the upper lip. Beard small and pointed.

     

    Sideburns

    All sideburns with shaved chin.

     

    Amish Beard

    Unbroken unshaven area from temple to chin to temple. Upper lip clean shaven.

    Freestyle Partial Beard

    All partial beards not matching other classes will be considered partial beard freestyle. Aids are allowed.

    Full Beard

    Full Beard Natural

    As grown, moustache integrated. No styling aids allowed.

     

    Full Beard with Styled Moustache

    As grown, only moustache can be styled with aids and may start growing from up to maximum of 1.5 cm beyond the end of the upper lip.

     

    Verdi

    Short, length not to exceed 10 cm, and round. Moustache may be styled. Aids are allowed.

     

    Garibaldi

    Broad, full and round. Length not to  exceed 20 cm, moustache integrated. Aids are not allowed.

    Full Beard Freestyle

    All full beards not matching other classes will be considered full beard freestyle. Aids are allowed.
