We are so pleased you've expressed interest in your child(ren) joining us for DRUMBEAT with Lionheart. You're probably wondering, what is 'DRUMBEAT with Lionheart'? Well, we're so glad you asked!
What is 'DRUMBEAT'?
DRUMBEAT is a program which uses music, psycholology and neurobiology to help participants connect with themselves and with others.
The DRUMBEAT acronym stands for: Discovering Relationships Using Music, Beliefs, Emotions, Attitudes and Thoughts. As a program, DRUMBEAT aims to improve emotional regulation, enhance social skills and team work as well as their understanding of emotions and healthy expressions of these emotions.
DRUMBEAT with Lionheart in 2025 is open for children aged 8(ish) to 12(ish). We hope to provide a space for children to connect again after attending a previous Lionheart camp. We hope to offer an opportunity for children to extend their understanding of their own grief response as well as exploring other areas related to adjusting to their new world following their bereavement.
We will be using djembe drums each week along with conversations, games and activities to explore that week's theme, learn new skills and make some music (or noise!) together.
What is expected of participants?
DRUMBEAT with Lionheart is 10-sessions, condensed into a 5-week program that runs every Sunday for five weeks. Details below:
Start Date: Sunday 4th May 2025
End Date: Sunday 1st June 2025
Time: 10.00am to 12.00pm
Location: Innaloo (exact address will be provided when your registration is confirmed).
We will require our participants to commit to attend all sessions, as is the case for our camp programs (unless of course unable to attend due to sickness). Only children need to participate (no adult program), though we do ask that adults join us to watch a 30 minute performance during the last session. And yes, that means you can drop your child off to us and go have a coffee or shop etc. for the two hours!
At the conclusion of the program, we will email you a link to an online survey at the end of the program to seek your feedback about how you found the program. Your participation in providing feedback will be most helpful for us in shaping our future programs.
We're in! What's next?
If your child(ren) are aged 8-12 years (or there abouts!), and you're able to commit to bringing them to Innaloo for the 5 sessions each Sunday, then please complete the form and submit. Please note that we are only to able to accept up to 10 registrations, so submit your interest quickly so you don't miss out!
Please note that submission of this is not a confirmation of your child's place in the program. We will issue you with confirmation of your child(ren)'s place, and will provide further information about the start of the program.
We can't wait to see you again!
