Art is seen as a transformative force that gives way to creation and possibility. This in turn opens up the world to not only exploration but evolution and involvement. In a world where the majority of our energy goes into survival, how are we as artists, as people, meant to connect and form networks? How are we to take time for creation and to philosophise and prophesise on moving ourselves and communities in a positive direction?
The word ‘despite’ calls to the ethos and shared understanding of creation in a world where people have to fight for the time to create art. Despite it all, we have fought to make time and space for exploration, creation and knowledge. This strength and resilience against the odds of a hyper-capitalist reality should be celebrated and shared.
As a collective we are dedicated to showing the necessity of creation and the impacts of art. We are interested in using our limited free time to create a space and instance for artists to present the work they see as valuable and as a protest against our circumstance. Artists suffering under capitalism who don't have the money, connections, or time to participate in the mainstream contemporary art world, or to schmooze with people paying your rents worth for their latest handbag. We are imagining a future, pointing blame, providing solutions, and doing it together.
