We, the undersigned, urgently call for the preservation of our historic 100-year-old Banks High School building, which has served as a cornerstone of our community for over a century. This building is not only an architectural gem but also a symbol of our shared history and educational legacy. It has educated generations of students, hosted countless community events, and stood as a testament to the values of public education and civic pride. Demolishing this irreplaceable structure would erase a vital piece of our past, diminish our community’s connection to its heritage, and undermine the small-town charm that defines us.
We propose that, instead of demolition, this historic building be renovated and repurposed for continued use. With thoughtful renovation, the building could serve as an additional space for a library or study area, a student community center, additional classrooms, resource rooms, counseling offices, or administrative offices. Beyond its use as a school facility, it could also be repurposed as a city hall, community center, museum, or office space—providing lasting value to the entire community. Its preservation and adaptive reuse would not only honor its legacy but also create a vibrant, sustainable environment that meets the needs of current and future generations. By preserving this historic high school, we can create an inspiring, meaningful space that continues to serve our students and community for years to come.
We urge the local government and school board to consider this petition and take action to save this irreplaceable landmark.
