    • Adult Discipleship

      Description: The Adult Discipleship Committee focuses on fostering spiritual growth among adults in the church. They plan and organize educational programs, Bible studies, retreats, and discussion groups to deepen faith, encourage fellowship, and equip individuals to live out their Christian beliefs in everyday life.

    • Children’s Council

      Description: The PUMC Children’s Council serves as an advisory group, offering input and recommendations on policies and plans related to Kids@PUMC, which includes both Weekday Children’s Programs and PUMC Children’s Ministries. You may advocate for the Kids@PUMC programs and share general recommendations with the staff and church leadership, including the Children's Weekday Executive Board, Staff-Parish Relations Committee, and the Church Council.

      Description: The Church Council is the governing body of the church and is responsible for ensuring the church is operating with a shared vision and mission, empowering ministry/administrative teams to align their goals to furthering this vision, providing resources needed for the church to be in ministry, establishing the budget and recommending salary package for pastors to charge conference.

      Description: The committee has the responsibility for teaching faithful stewardship while developing and implementing plans to raise sufficient income to meet the budget adopted by the Church Council.

    • Endowment Committee

      Description: The Endowment Committee provides sustained support for many ministries by receiving and administering all endowment gifts of the church.

    • Finance Committee

      Description: The Finance Committee oversees the receiving and expenditure of church funds, making sure that the funds are properly accounted for. The committee compiles a complete annual budget and submits it to the Church Council for review and adoption.

    • Growing Young Initiative

      Description: The Growing Young Initiative is based on the research of Fuller Youth Institute which provides faith leaders with strategies to help position churches to engage younger generations in a way that breathes vitality, life, and energy into the whole church. This initiative is working across the church connection to implement the Growing Young principles in all aspects of our life and ministry.

    • Hospitality Committee

      Description: The Hospitality Committee at PUMC works to create a warm environment in which guests and those new to worship are received and welcomed with kindness and attention. This committee coordinates our greeters, ushers and welcome desk, trains those in these areas of service and recruits new folks to participate. The focus of hospitality is to receive and welcome those who come to worship and any other events hosted on PUMC grounds.

    • Missions Committee

      Description: The Missions Committee draws the church members' attention to the local and larger community ministries of compassion, justice, and advocacy. The committee provides information on social concerns and missions, opportunities for community service, special appeals (offerings for conference, national, or international relief efforts).

    • Outreach Committee

      Description: The Outreach Committee at PUMC is concerned with reaching out to our neighbors and community in order to build relationships and connections. Our work is to let more folks in our immediate community know who we are, what we stand for and especially that God loves them! We partner with community organizations as a way of engaging with those who, especially, have been and are continually marginalized. We work with Missions, Hospitality, Discipleship, Youth and Children's Ministries and more as we continue to discern to whom and how God calls us to show the care and compassion of Jesus.

    • Safety Council

      Description: The Church Safety Council focuses on ensuring the safety and security of the church environment. This group develops safety protocols, oversees emergency preparedness, addresses potential hazards, and educates staff and volunteers on safety procedures. Their goal is to create a secure space for worship and community activities.

    • Staff Parish Relations Committee (HR)

    • Contact: Tamara Jones

      Description: The Staff Parish Relations Committee is our personnel committee that provides an oversight capacity for the pastors and other paid staff. Work of the committee includes taking in new pastors as assigned to the church by the Bishop, interviewing candidates for other paid staff positions, recommending salary and benefits for the staff and evaluating and celebrating the staff.

      Description: The Board of Trustees has the supervision, oversight, and care of all real property owned by the church. The Trustees provide for the proper maintenance of all church-owned property, buildings, and equipment and make plans for the future development of properties. The Trustees review annually the adequacy of insurance coverage on all church-owned property, buildings, and equipment.

      Description: The Worship Arts Ministry aims to foster a community of creatives who can design engaging environments to praise and encounter Jesus. We accomplish this through the use of platform and altar design, music, light, media, video, and other creative art-forms.

    • Liturgist / Reader

      Description: Liturgists play a meaningful role in helping people connect with God on Sunday morning by leading the call to worship, sharing the scripture lesson, and guiding the congregation through special/seasonal aspects of our liturgy -- all with a spirit of passion and enthusiasm for the Word and for bringing the liturgy to life for worshipers.

    • Prayer Leader

      Description: Prayer leaders bring original prayers on Sunday morning that give voice to the joys and concerns of the congregation, inspire worshipers to reflect on the morning's scripture lesson and sermon, and encourage further connection with God and action in the upcoming week.

    • Communion Steward

    • Contact: Sue Hylton

      Description: A Communion Steward is a dedicated volunteer who assists in preparing and serving the elements of Communion during worship services. Their responsibilities typically include ensuring the bread and wine (or juice) are properly set up on the altar or Communion table, maintaining the cleanliness and order of the space, and sometimes helping to distribute the elements to the congregation. The role requires reverence, attention to detail, and a heart for service, as the Communion Steward plays a vital part in facilitating this sacred act of worship and fostering a meaningful experience for all who participate.

    • Audio Engineer

      Description: The Audio Engineer manages sound during services, ensuring clear audio for speakers, music, and worship elements. They adjust volume levels, monitor microphones, and troubleshoot technical issues. Their role is crucial for delivering an engaging and smooth worship experience, supporting both live and recorded church presentations.

    • Live Stream Operator

      Description: A Live Stream Operator manages the church's live streaming during services, ensuring smooth broadcasts for online viewers. They handle camera angles, audio levels, and transitions, creating an engaging worship experience for remote attendees. This role requires technical skills, quick thinking, and a commitment to connecting the congregation through digital media.

    • ProPresenter Operator

      Description: A ProPresenter Operator manages presentation slides during worship, syncing lyrics, videos, and sermon notes with the service flow. This role requires focus, quick timing, and technical skills to ensure a seamless, engaging experience for the congregation, enhancing worship through smooth visual support that aligns with the message and music.

    • ProPresenter Builder

    • Contact: Tamara Jones

      Description: A ProPresenter Builder creates visually engaging worship presentations, managing lyrics, scriptures, videos, and announcements within ProPresenter software. They work closely with pastors, worship leaders, and tech teams to ensure smooth, dynamic worship services. Attention to detail and creativity are essential to delivering clear, impactful visuals for the congregation.

    • Classic Sanctuary Choir Vocalist

      Description: In Classic worship, a serving opportunity is to sing in the Sanctuary Choir. Women and men, young women and young men meet on Thursdays at 6:30pm to rehearse music that is chosen to partner with scripture to add even more meaning to the sermon. Vocal solos and ensembles are also welcome at any time of the year.

    • NewDay Praise Band Vocalist

      Description: A NewDay Praise Band Vocalist is an energetic singer who leads worship in a contemporary setting, engaging the congregation with heartfelt vocals. They collaborate with musicians to deliver powerful, inspiring worship music that resonates with diverse audiences. This role requires passion, vocal talent, and a desire to create a meaningful worship experience.

    • Sanctuary Bell Choir Player

      Description: PUMC's Bell Choir plays in the Classic Worship service. The bell choir meets on Monday evenings at 6:30 pm.

    • NewDay Praise Band Instrumentalist

    • Contact: Brandon Denman

      Description: A NewDay Praise Band Instrumentalist brings energy and skill to contemporary worship, playing instruments like guitar, drums, keyboard, or bass. They collaborate with vocalists and other musicians to create an engaging worship experience, leading the congregation in uplifting, modern praise music that fosters a dynamic, joyful connection with God.

    • Classic Instrumentalist

      Description: Another Classic service opportunity is to play your instrument in worship. Solos or ensembles at any time of the year are always a blessing to the congregation.

    • Hospitality Serving Opportunities 
    • Coffee Setup/Cleanup

    • Contact: Laurie and Mike Rohrer

      Description: Assist with creating a welcoming environment by preparing and maintaining the coffee area. Responsibilities include setting up coffee stations, brewing coffee, restocking supplies (cups, creamers, sugar, etc.), and keeping the area tidy. After service, clean up by disposing of trash, washing any used items, and ensuring the space is reset for the next use. This role is perfect for someone who enjoys creating a hospitable atmosphere and working behind the scenes.

    • Greeters

      Description: Greeters welcome everyone with a warm smile as they enter and exit the building on Sunday mornings. Positioned at the exterior doors, they help create a friendly and inviting atmosphere. Greeters serve both before and after each worship service, ensuring every guest feels acknowledged and valued.

    • Welcome Desk

      Description: Serve at the Welcome Desk before and after each worship service, assisting with a variety of tasks. Responsibilities include answering questions, providing directions, distributing Welcome Bags to first-time visitors, and inviting them to fill out a visitor form (if they wish). This role ensures guests feel informed, welcomed, and cared for.

      Description: Ushers plays a vital role in creating a welcoming and organized environment. Responsibilities include greeting attendees with warmth, assisting with seating, distributing worship folders, and providing guidance throughout the service. Ushers help maintain a smooth flow by managing the offering, addressing any needs of the congregation, and ensuring the sanctuary remains orderly. They are the first point of contact for visitors, embodying hospitality and support to enhance the worship experience.

      Description: Christmas Outreach for Families of Prisoners
      Join a meaningful prison fellowship program that brings hope and joy during the holiday season. Volunteers have the opportunity to connect with families, pack donated gifts and food, and deliver these items to children of prisoners and their families at Christmas. This act of service shares love and support with those in need, making their holiday season brighter.

    • Satisfying the Hunger: Homeless Meal Preparation

      Description: Join us in making a difference by preparing nutritious meals for those in need. This service opportunity involves working as a team to cook, assemble, and package meals that will be distributed to homeless individuals in our community. No prior experience is required—just bring a heart for service and a willingness to help. Together, we can provide hope and nourishment to those facing hunger.

      Description: Homeless Meal Delivery is an opportunity to serve those in need by delivering meals to homeless individuals in our community.       Description: Volunteer in Appalachia by building and repairing homes, sewing, and creating quilts to support the outreach activities of Henderson Settlement. Your efforts will help improve living conditions and raise funds to support vital community programs, making a lasting impact on the lives of those in need.

    • Kairos Prison Ministry

      Description: Join a volunteer team dedicated to sharing the transforming love and forgiveness of Jesus with incarcerated men, women, and their families. Volunteers play a vital role by baking cookies, praying, creating posters, and donating meal tickets. Together, these efforts bring hope, healing, and encouragement to those impacted by incarceration.

    • Saturday Lunch Meal Preparation

      Description: The Saturday Lunch Ministry serves free meals to the local community, spreading care and connection. On the second and last Saturdays of the month, volunteers deliver meals to shut-ins and others in need. On the last Saturday, the church opens its doors to welcome community members for a meal and fellowship, offering both nourishment and a sense of belonging.

    • Mission Sewing Group

      Description: A service opportunity to use your sewing skills to make a difference. Volunteers work together to create clothing and quilts for the United Methodist Midwest Mission Distribution Center and Madina Village School. This hands-on project helps provide essential items to communities in need, bringing warmth, comfort, and support to individuals and families facing difficult circumstances.     • St. Mark's Cub Den

      Description: Twice a month, volunteers from PUMC team up with St. Mark’s Episcopal Church to prepare and serve weekend meals for food-insecure children in Plainfield. This service opportunity offers a chance to directly impact the lives of local children by providing them with nutritious meals and a sense of community support.

    • Midwest Distribution Center Volunteers

      Description: Volunteer at the Midwest Distribution Center, where you can help with sorting, packing, and distributing essential supplies to those in need.       Description: CROP Walk: Communities Responding to Oppose Poverty is an annual event aimed at addressing hunger and poverty. Participants walk to raise funds, with 25% of the proceeds staying in Plainfield to support local hunger ministries. Join us in this meaningful opportunity to make a difference by walking, fundraising, or volunteering to help fight hunger both globally and in our own community.

      Description: Stephen Ministry provides one-on-one Christian care to individuals going through difficult times. Volunteers, called Stephen Ministers, are trained to offer confidential, compassionate support to those dealing with life challenges such as illness, grief, or personal struggles. This service opportunity allows you to walk alongside others, offering a listening ear and spiritual encouragement as they navigate their journey toward healing and hope.
