$2500 Scholarship
Scholarship Guidelines:
This scholarship may be used at any two or four-year Historically Black College or University (Trade, Technical and Cosmetology Schools are ineligible).
Eligibility:
- African-American high school senior who plans to study a criminal justice related field at a historically black college or university (HBCU)
- Minimum of 3.5 cumulative GPA on a 4.0 scale
- Participation in criminal justice related activities
- Involvement in community/extracurricular activities
- Completed Scholarship Application with supporting documents uploaded
- An Official High School transcript (Non-weighted grade point average on 4.0 scale) emailed by your high school counselor or sent from an electronic system
- Application and all supporting materials are due by 11:58 pm CST, on Saturday, February 15, 2025.
- If applicant becomes a finalist, a personal interview MAY BE required.
- Finalist will be notified of interview the week of Monday, March 3, 2025.
- Scholarship award winner will be announced at the AISD Family Expo and Resource Fair on Saturday, April 5, 2025.
Application Package - before you begin the application have the following items available to upload:
- Two letters of recommendation from anyone (not related to you) who can speak to your college readiness and leadership ability within a club, organization, UIL group, or with a community service project.
- Proof of SAT or ACT score – Students can order their scores from the ACT/SAT testing websites. Check with your counselor because scores may already be on your official transcript.
- Minimum 500 word typed essay, 1” margin, doubled spaced, 12 point - Times Roman font style on the topic:
- How could the criminal justice system be improved? What would you do to improve it?
- Essay must be written in your own voice. The use of AI or ChatGPT is strictly forbidden. Essays utilizing this format/software will be disqualified.
***SCHOLARSHIP FUNDS WILL BE DISBURSED DIRECTLY TO THE AWARD WINNER UPON SECONDARY ENROLLMENT VERIFICATION***
