2025 NAACP/MLP Scholarship
Offered by: Shelby County Chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People and the Montevallo Legacy Project. This scholarship is open to graduating seniors in Shelby County public schools who have shown a commitment to racial justice and the potential to be outstanding community leaders.
Scholarship Amount: Awards totaling $5000. In the past, awards were $2500, $1500, and $1000.
Use of scholarship: To be applied toward tuition for first year of post-secondary study.
Eligibility:
- Graduating Shelby County high school students planning to attend an accredited 2- or 4-year institution (including vocational/technical schools)
- Active involvement in community service or extracurricular activities
- Demonstrated leadership skills in the area of social justice and equality.
Deadline for submission: February 28, 2025
Selection Process: A panel of judges will assess applications based on the following*:
- Leadership (25%)
- Mini-essays (25%)
- Academic record (25%)
- Community Service/Extracurricular Activity (15%)
- Recommendations (10%)

Application Procedure: All of the following must be received by February 28, 2025:
- Completed scholarship application
- Copy of your unofficial transcript
- Copy of acceptance letter (or, in its absence, a statement of education plans for the fall
