Eligability review
Owens Corning requires the following criteria in order for an applicant household to be eligable:
1. A veteran must be residing in the household as a principle residence.
2. The veteran must have an ownership claim to the property.
3. The vertain must have an Honorable discharge.
4. The household must be at or below 80% of the AMI.
Additionally, we can only process nomination applications for local households residing in Albany, Renssealer, or southern Saratoga County. You may reach out to your local Habitat organization to enquire about a Veterans Build or Roof Deployment project.
Site visit
If the household meets the eligability criteria, Habitat will need to perfom a visit to the home to see the roof's conditions and take pictures. The purpose of the site visit is to get the dimensions and slope of the roof and scope out the extent of the roof's condition. This information is needed to apply to Owens Corning.
It's important to note that the program only covers the cost of the roofing materials and labor. If there is other damage to the roof, the homeowner will be responsible for repair and cost.
Owens Corning/ HFHI nomination
If the household meets all eligibility requirements, Habitat Capital District nominates the veteran household to the Owens Corning roof deployment program via Habitat for Humanity International. The nomination is reviewed, and it can take up to a month to hear back from Owens Corning regarding the outcome of the application.
Finding a roofer
If the nomination is approved, Owens Corning finds a local roofer to perform the work. The roofer will be in contact with the homeowner to coordinate the repair. Owens Corning and Habitat for Humanity International will also be in touch regarding media outreach.
