CE Credits: Eligible participants will receive 2 NBCC, PA SW/LPC/MFT CE and/or 2 ACT 48 Credits upon completion of course requirements.
Child Guidance Resource Centers (CGRC) is approved by the National Board of Cerfified Counselors, Pennsylvania State Board of Social Workers, Marriage and Family Therapists, and Professional Counselors to offer continuing education for social workers, marriage and family therapists, and professional counselors. CGRC maintains responsibility for the program. CGRC is an approved provider of ACT 48 credits by the Pennsylvania Board of Education.
Description: This workshop provides an overview of sexual development and addresses concerns that mental health clinicians may encounter when working with traumatized youth. The course will explore factors that influence sexual development including trauma. Participants will learn the importance of viewing clients’ sexuality as more than just their sexual activity.
Course Format: This 2-hour course will be held on-line via Zoom. The format will include a PowerPoint presentation and participant engagement. Participants will be encouraged to ponder the clinical, ethical, and practical aspects of brief case scenarios.
Course Objectives: At the conclusion of the training, participants will be able to:
- Identify three influences on children’s sexual development.
- Identify three or more ways in which childhood sexual trauma may influence sexuality.
- Explain why it’s important to view clients’ sexuality as more than just their sexual activity.
- Discuss sexuality education-related concerns that may arise when working with children and teens.
