Prom Behavior Code
The Maryland Homeschool Prom, sponsored by Christiana Homeschool Academy, was founded in 2009 by homeschooling parents to give their high school students a safe haven in which to interact, dance, socialize and have fun with other homeschoolers. Homeschooled attendees are not required to bring partners but are welcome to bring a guest of the opposite sex, preferably also a homeschooler, if they wish. Since Christiana Homeschool Academy sponsors this event, the event and their organizers agree with and follow Christiana Homeschool Academy's Statement of Faith. (please click link for Statement of Faith https://www.classicalchristianahomeschool.com/mission--statement-of-faith.html)
Please find the Prom Behavior Code below. Please make sure you read it and abide by the rules. This code was carefully crafted by the Prom committee members for your own safety and protection. We want you all to have a memorable evening, and trust you will cooperate and enjoy the party. This code will also be displayed at the check-in table and printed in the souvenir program.
The Prom Committee has as its purpose and goal to provide a pleasant, fun, and safe environment for the high school students and their guests. To better accomplish this, all attendees are expected to abide by the following rules and guidelines for the duration of the dance. Any prom attendee not adhering to the behavior contract will be told to leave the event and their parents will be informed immediately and/or asked to come pick them up.
DRESS CODE: All guests should be dressed in a manner which shows respect for themselves and for others. Clothing should not be suggestive or revealing, and should keep undergarments covered at all times. Specifically:
- Ladies: are NOT permitted to wear dresses which expose the belly, have plunging necklines (lower than armpit line), shorter than knee-length, have extremely high slits (higher than end of longest fingertip when hands are places naturally at your sides), or are backless (ex. open back or criss cross straps lower than natural bra line). Gowns should be well fitted and properly hemmed. Consider adding straps to strapless gowns for a more secure fit. Any clothing which leaves undergarments exposed is also not appropriate. If you are uncertain about the dress you have selected, PLEASE EMAIL US A PICTURE. We encourage a more modest approach to your dress selection. Scarves, leggings and camisoles will be provided for attendees to wear in the event that the dress code is not adhered to. Wear comfortable, dance-friendly shoes or bring a pair of flats to change into as shoes must be worn at all times.
- Gentleman: are expected to wear tuxedos or suits with an oxford button down shirt, tie, dress shoes and socks. They may not wear any clothing which leaves undergarments exposed. No jeans, polo shirts or sloppy attire are permitted. Suit coats may be removed during the evening, but shirts and ties must stay on properly all evening. Canes are not permitted.
- All attire will be reviewed upon check-in and any clothing issues will be dealt with at that time. If you refuse to comply with any dress code issues at that time, you will not be permitted to enter the ballroom and a refund will not be issued due to non-compliance of dress code.
- All guests: No bags or backpacks are permitted. Small purses are allowed, however they will be inspected upon registration.
DANCING: Guests are not permitted to dance in a provocative or inappropriate manner, whether it is with a person of the opposite sex or not. Guests are not permitted to embrace or touch others inappropriately at any time.
SAFETY: Guests are expected to exhibit safe and courteous behavior at all times. No running, pushing, fighting, or hitting is permitted. Dance circles will be broken up if dancing becomes unruly or inappropriate. Guests are expected to keep food and drink off the dance floor. Guests are expected to respect Prom Committee members and chaperones and to abide by the rules. Martin's is a smoke free building.
SECURITY: Guests are expected to remain in the assigned ballroom of Martin's at all times, except for trips to the rest rooms and photography sessions with the professional photographer. NO WATER BOTTLES OR DRINKS FROM THE OUTSIDE will be allowed in to the Prom. Anything brought in to the prom will be examined at the check in table before entry. Problem items will be held until after the prom. Please contact us if there are any special medical concerns or issues that need to be addressed the evening of prom.
PROBLEMS: Though we do not foresee any problems, please be aware that Prom Committee members as well as the Martin's staff reserve the right to tell an attendee to leave the premises at any time for inappropriate and/or disrespectful behavior.
