Sky Lodge Christian Camp exists to provide physical recreation, emotional renewal and spiritual restoration through camping activities blended with biblical principles and Christian values. Our counselors play a pivotal role in accomplishing that mission!
During your time at camp, you are much more than just a babysitter. You are a guide for young people who are forming ideas of life and faith.
Please thoughtfully answer the following questions to help us better understand the kind of guide you will be.
1. Why do you want to be a camp counselor this summer? *
2. What experiences do you have working with children or teens? Please be sure to include any camp experiences specifically, if you have any. Please also include if you have any experience working with youth with special needs or those requiring accommodations.*
3. Please share a bit of your testimony. Who is Jesus to you? What difference has knowing Him made in your life? Has your faith journey influenced your desire to work as a camp counselor? How so?*
4. How would you balance the fun and recreational aspects of camp activities with educational and spiritual components? *
5. Share an example of how you've resolved conflicts among campers, or how you would do so, while reinforcing Christian values.*
6. What strategies might you use to address homesickness or other emotional challenges from a camper, specifically from a Christian perspective?*
7. You will be working with a co-counselor during your week at camp. What could you do prior to campers arriving to be sure you both will be "on the same page" when the kids arrive? How might you problem solve when you experience a difference of opinions in how to handle things with your cabin group?
8. Our counselors are expected to help lead 1 activity class during the day. Are there any activities/hobbies you really enjoy or have experience with that would help you feel most confident leading campers in the activity? (i.e. - canoeing, archery, crafts, nature exploration, etc.)*
9. We believe that cell phones, while being useful tools, often cause unhelpful distractions as well as prevent deep and meaningful connection between people. Because of this, we expect our counselors to severely limit their phone usage while at camp. This includes, but is not limited to, not having your device on your person whenever you are around campers. Are you willing to abide by that expectation, as well as any other technology policies that are laid out by the session director? If you have any hesitations or concerns about agreeing to this type of policy, please explain.*

Counselor Agreement

If any part of this agreement is found by a court or any other appropriate authority to be invalid, the remainder of the agreement nevertheless will be in full force and affect.
I testify that I have received by faith the Lord Jesus Christ, am born again of the Holy Spirit, and am a child of God. I understand that as a volunteer counselor or program worker, I am neither an agent nor an employee of Sky Lodge Christian Camp and do not have any authority to legally bind or obligate camp. I shall reimburse and hold Sky Lodge Christian Camp harmless from any liability that Sky Lodge Christian Camp may incur as a result of my actions or omissions. I hereby certify that all of the information provided by me in this application (or any other accompanying or required documents) is correct, accurate and complete to the best of my knowledge. I understand that the falsification, misrepresentation or omission of any facts in said documents will be cause for denial of acceptance or immediate termination of position regardless of the timing or circumstances of discovery. I understand that submission of application does not guarantee acceptance. I further understand that, should Sky Lodge extend an offer and approve of my volunteer position, such acceptance is at will, for a specific duration but may be terminated by either Sky Lodge or myself at any time, with or without cause or notice. I understand that none of the documents, policies, procedures, actions, or statements of Sky Lodge or its representatives used during the application process is deemed a contract of acceptance, real or implied. If accepted, I agree to conform to the rules, regulations, policies, and procedures of Sky Lodge at all times and understand that such obedience is a condition of continued participation. I understand that, if seriously considered for a position with Sky Lodge, I will be required to submit to a background check as a condition of acceptance. I understand that an unsatisfactory result from, refusal to cooperate with, or attempt to affect the results of these background checks will result in withdrawal of any position offered, or dismissal if already accepted. I hereby authorize any and all schools, former employers, references, courts and any others who have information about me to provide such information to Sky Lodge and or any of its representatives, agents or vendors and I release all parties involved from any and all liability for any and all damage that may result from providing such information. I consent that any dispute between me and Sky Lodge will be governed by the substantive laws of the State of Wisconsin and any mediation or suit that might occur shall be filed in the Marquette County court system.*

Counselor/Camper Incentive Program
