Description:
Topic 1- Beyond the Buzzwords: Debunking DOK Myths and Elevating Classroom Rigor:
Join us for a dynamic, full-day workshop with Sara Christopherson, Director of WebbAlign at WCEPS, as we go beyond the buzzwords and take a deep dive into Webb’s Depth of Knowledge (DOK) framework. Designed for K–12 educators, this interactive session tackles the most persistent myths and misconceptions about DOK and reframes it as a practical, powerful tool for promoting rigor and coherence across curriculum, instruction, and assessment.
Through collaborative, hands-on activities, participants will:
- Demystify DOK levels and uncover common misunderstandings.
- Apply the DOK framework meaningfully across classroom contexts.
- Explore high-leverage strategies for optimizing instructional decisions.
- Develop an actionable plan to implement or refine DOK practices in the classroom, school, or district.
You’ll leave with clear, usable tools and concrete strategies to elevate your practice and empower your students with deeper, more purposeful learning experiences.
Topic 2- Unlocking Multilingual Potential: Shifting from Monolingual Measures:
We will examine the impact of current policies, debunk myths about assessment, and explore asset-based alternatives. Through case studies and discussions, educators will gain research-backed strategies to align assessment with multilingual strengths, moving beyond English-only measures.
Through interactive and collaborative activities, participants will:
- Apply research-backed strategies to design and implement multilingual assessments that align with instruction
- Evaluate practical tools to support a shift away from monolingual testing and advocate for different approaches
By the end of the session, you'll be equipped with actionable strategies to design tools that not only capture evidence of learning—but also inspire and shape it.
