Queer CoNNections Employee Resource Group Interest Form
The purpose of the Queer CoNNections Employee Resource Group is to promote a thriving, respectful, and welcoming professional work environment for those who identify as LGBTQ+ or an ally at the City of Newport News. Queer CoNNections sets out to create a community where members can come together to discuss and mobilize around issues specific to its constituency. The group serves as a collaborative tool to augment the work of the ABIDE Program and fortify the City of Newport News' commitment to the work of DEI. Through strengthening internal connections amongst the members and allies of the LGBTQ+ community working for the City of Newport News, Queer CoNNections will aid the City of Newport News in cultivating a workplace and culture built on the pillar of DEI, resulting in more effective outcomes in its work, outreach, engagement, and service delivery. Queer CoNNections has a committee structure. The committees will meet at their discretion and the full group meets monthly for an hour.

As a City of Newport News employee, I would like to join the City's LGBTQ+ Employee Resource Group, sponsored by ABIDE, a DEI program by the Department of Human Resources. I understand my participation in the LGBTQ+ Employee Resource Group is strictly voluntary and may extend through a period of my choosing. I understand that while serving in this volunteer role, no work performed or meetings/functions I attend outside of my normal working hours, in conjunction with the LGBTQ+ Employee Resource Group, will be eligible for overtime, comp time, or other compensation. Additionally, I understand that I am to seek supervisor pre-approval in order to attend any meetings/functions of the LGBTQ+ Employee Resource Group and its subcommittees. Any tasks or work assignments conducted during working hours for the LGBTQ+ Employee Resource Group shall also be pre-approved by my supervisor.
