  • Calling All Northern Virginia High School Seniors!

    The Northern Virginia Chapter of the Virginia State University Alumni Association, Inc., will award academic scholarships to high school seniors in the Northern Virginia area (Arlington, Alexandria, Fairfax, Fairfax City, Prince William, Falls Church and Loudoun counties) who plan to attend Virginia State University on a full-time basis in the fall semester of this year.

    Dear Applicant,

    Thank you for your interest in the Virginia State University Alumni Association Northern Virginia Chapter, Incorporated Scholarship. The scholarship program was established over 30 years ago to award scholarships to incoming freshmen from the Northern Virginia area that plan to attend Virginia State University in Petersburg, Virginia.

    The Northern Virginia Chapter of the Virginia State University Alumni Association, Inc., located in Arlington, Virginia will award academic scholarships to high school seniors in the Northern Virginia area (Arlington, Alexandria, Fairfax, Fairfax City, Prince William, and Loudoun Counties) who plan to attend Virginia State University on a full-time basis for the upcoming fall semester.

    Scholarship application forms must be submitted by March 31 of this year. All the criteria below must be met and submitted together in one packet. Incomplete packets will not be considered. You will be contacted in April for a Zoom interview which will be considered as a part of the application process. 

    • Attend a high school listed in one of the above areas.
    • Have a GPA of 2.5 or greater on a 4.0 scale as verified by a submitted high school transcript signed by your school counselor.
    • Submit a completed scholarship application.
    • Demonstrate leadership ability and/or community involvement.
    • Provide any information on extenuating personal circumstances, if applicable.
    • Submit an essay of 200-250 words. Essay Topic: In today's digital age, information is readily accessible. How do you personally verify the credibility of information sources? Please provide specific examples of how you have applied critical thinking skills to evaluate information.
    • Submit a copy of your Virginia State University Acceptance Letter.
    • Submit two letters of recommendation: one from a school counselor or teacher and one from a church or community leader.
